Summary
The Robotic Programmer/Welder is responsible for creating, modifying, and maintaining robotic weld programs in accordance with TMS Manufacturing programming practices while supporting production through manual welding operations as required. This position performs robotic and manual GMAW welding on production weldments, ensuring all work meets established procedures, work orders, welding specifications, and quality requirements. When robotic programming, setup, or troubleshooting activities are not required, the employee will perform production welding, fit-up, and related fabrication duties. The role supports production by setting up tooling, accessing robotic weld programs, adjusting welding equipment within approved WPS ranges, identifying process errors, and ensuring weld quality throughout the manufacturing process. This position requires knowledge of robotic weld programming, welding fundamentals, GMAW certification, and the ability to work safely and accurately in a manufacturing environment.
Essential duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Create, modify, and maintain robotic weld programs, with primary responsibility on the shop floor and secondary responsibility for off-line programming.
- Access robotic weld programs through the computer system and execute work orders according to specifications.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and correct robotic weld process errors, inconsistencies, and program issues.
- Set up tooling, fixtures, jigs, peripheral equipment, and consumables as specified in robotic weld programs and work orders.
- Fit and position weldments made up of multiple parts using welding fixtures and jigs.
- Adjust and regulate manual welding machines within defined WPS ranges to achieve proper penetration, fill, weld quality, and performance.
- Use basic measuring tools such as rules, squares, protractors, templates, and fixed gauges to verify work.
- Follow prescribed procedures and ensure work meets process, final inspection, and testing requirements.
- Complete required company quality system procedures, department ISO procedures, robotic weld programming training, weld training, and qualification testing.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area while following all company safety and quality standards.
Qualifications and Education Requirements

- High school diploma, GED, or HSED required.
- Six months of related experience and/or training preferred.
- Knowledge of robotic programming through work experience or training.
- Knowledge of welding principles, welding techniques, and basic welding fundamentals.
- GMAW welding certification required.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to access, follow, and execute robotic weld programs.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, weld programs, procedures, and specifications.
- Ability to set up tooling, fixtures, jigs, equipment, and consumables accurately.
- Ability to use basic measuring tools such as rules, squares, protractors, templates, and fixed gauges.
- Strong attention to detail, quality, safety, and process consistency.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and lift or move up to 50 pounds as required.
