Robotics Engineer – Autonomous Vessels & Drones
Description
The Role
We're looking for a UAV Engineer to own and improve the reliability of our USV–UAV coordination logic. At Hyarks, our autonomous vessels don't operate alone—they work in tandem with aerial systems to extend sensing, communication, and operational reach. We need someone who can make that coordination bulletproof.
You'll start by building and stress-testing the coordination pipeline in simulation, identifying failure modes, improving robustness, and validating edge cases. As the system matures, you'll be responsible for transferring that work to real drone hardware—tuning, testing, and iterating until the system performs reliably in real maritime conditions.
This means you'll work across the full stack of drone autonomy: flight controller configuration, mission logic, state estimation, and the interface layer between our USV and UAV platforms. You'll collaborate closely with our controls and software teams, but the air side of the system will be yours.
This is a startup environment. You'll have real ownership, real impact, and the freedom to make meaningful technical decisions from day one.
Key Skills
We're looking for someone who has spent serious time working with real flight systems—not just theory.
Essential:
Significant hands-on experience with PX4 or ArduPilot (configuration, tuning, custom module development).
Strong understanding of flight controller architecture and MAVLink communication.
Programming skills in C++ and Python.
Experience with ROS/ROS 2 for system integration.
Ability to work in simulation environments (Gazebo, AirSim, or similar) and transfer results to hardware.
Highly advantageous:
Experience with perception pipelines and coordinate frame transformations (TF/TF2).
Background in visual servoing or vision-based relative navigation.
Familiarity with multi-agent coordination or cooperative robotics.
Knowledge of GNSS-denied navigation or precision landing.
Requirements
The following are essential:
Proven experience developing and deploying software on real UAV platforms—not just simulation.
Ability to systematically diagnose and resolve reliability issues in autonomous systems.
Strong collaboration skills and readiness to work in a fast-paced, cross-disciplinary environment.
What We Offer
Alongside the opportunity to work on cutting-edge autonomous maritime systems, we provide:
Competitive salary.
ESOP participation.
Freedom to design and implement systems end-to-end.
Flexible work arrangements (partial remote possible).
If you’re ready to create control systems that will keep autonomous vessels steady, safe, and smart in the toughest maritime environments, we want to hear from you.
