Roller Operator
The Roller Operator is responsible for operating machines to spread, smooth, level, or steel-reinforce stone, concrete, or asphalt on roadbeds. This position drives heavy rolling machine to compact earth fills, subgrade, streets, and runways. This position also operates tamping machines or may be required to manually roll surfaces to compact earth fills, foundation forms, and finished road materials, according to grade specifications.
What You'll Do
- Operate equipment safety and efficiently by following patterns to smooth material from paver to proper depths.
- Drive machines onto truck trailers, and drive trucks to transport machines and material to and from job sites.
- Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving.
- Perform minor servicing and maintenance of equipment; refer major problems to the supervisor.
- Follow all Company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for a safe working environment.
- Follow direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
- Report any problems to the Foreman.
- Perform daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.
- Assist in training less-experienced employees on the proper operations, servicing, and repair of equipment to further their abilities.
- Performs duties as directed related to the plant and plant site.
- Other duties as assigned per supervisor.
- Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
What We're Looking For
- Three to five years related experience and/or training with operating all types of grading equipment.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- CDL Class A with tanker endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain one.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Strong understanding of asphalt paving techniques, grades, drainage, compaction, and paving specifications.
- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work independently while following project plans and supervisor direction.
