ROOF ABOVE Roof Above is NC’s most comprehensive homeless service provider. Our mission is to unite our community to end homelessness, one life at a time. Focusing on individuals experiencing homelessness, Roof Above offers everything from street outreach to shelter to Rapid Rehousing to Permanent Supportive Housing. Roof Above’s services and programs reach over 1,400 individuals every day across ten campuses in Charlotte. Roof Above was born through the merger of Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte in 2019.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Room in the Inn (RITI) Manager has dual responsibilities. First, the position leads the development and execution of the daily operations of the volunteer winter sheltering program called Room in the Inn. This includes the operations of the program: cultivation/nurturing of host sites and volunteers, registration/sign-up logistics, participant (we call Neighbors) relations, and being a part of the Day Services Center team. The position also supervises 7-10 seasonal, part-time staff. The role is largely seasonal, with the bulk of the hours spent from November through mid-April, but there is some element of planning and work that occurs year-round. Room in the Inn operates December 1 through March 31. This position may be shared (having Co-Managers) should two individuals be found and who agree partner in this manner.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop and execute processes that recruit, nurture, and sustain Congregations, host sites and group volunteering and engagement.
- Develop, communicate, and operate the sign-up and intake process for Neighbors.
- Craft and communicate weekly emails with host sites and intake teams during the RITI season, while also regularly communicating leading up to and just after the season.
- Document and track group volunteering.
- Develop strategy and lead the direction for individual and group volunteer engagement across the Room in the Inn sites and Day Center check-in, including recruitment, training/onboarding, nurturing, conflict resolution, and recognition.
- Document Neighbor data accordingly through the Homeless Management Information Services (HMIS) system in which you will be trained and certified.
- Set up, document volunteer data accordingly through the Volunteer System (currently using Bell Data) in which you will be trained.
- Manage any Neighbor conflict/challenges related to Room in the Inn participation.
- Develop and nurture community partnerships in which we collaborate to help RITI Neighbors with shelter and housing.
- Serve as an Extended Leader within Roof Above and participate in any meetings/trainings as appropriate.
- Provide presentations and/or meet with interested groups/individuals to help grow and sustain Room in the Inn.
- Collaborate with other Roof Above staff, particularly at the Day Services Center to further assist Neighbors utilizing RITI.
- Onboard and train volunteers/seasonal staff, as appropriate.
- Participate in staff training and meetings, as appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
