ROTATING EQUIPMENT RELIABILITY ENGINEER
Summary
Engineer responsible for maintaining and improving the reliability of rotating equipment like pumps and compressors in an oil & gas setting, using condition monitoring and root cause analysis to reduce downtime.
We are seeking a professional for the Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer position to work at our office located in Rio Corporate Office dedicated to Guyana project (MOG).
Serve as the Technical Authority (Integrity) to evaluate and respond to Management of Change (MOC) and Technical Assistance (TA) requests. Lead Root Cause Failure Analyses (RCFA/RCA) and develop reliability and maintenance strategies for rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, turbines, gearboxes, and Dry Gas Seal systems), ensuring compliance with MODEC standards and international codes, increasing MTBF, and reducing downtime.
Key Responsibilities
· Technical Authority (MOC/TA & Governance)
o Evaluate, respond to, and approve MOC/TA requests, technical changes, and deviations, ensuring compliance with MODEC standards and applicable regulations (API/ASME/ISO/ABNT).
o Issue Technical Notes and Guidelines as a recognized subject matter expert, standardizing practices and lessons learned.
o Ensure full documentation, traceability, and clear communication with onshore/offshore stakeholders.
· Performance Monitoring & Improvement (Condition Monitoring)
o Monitor rotating equipment performance using PDM/CBM techniques: vibration analysis, thermography, and oil analysis (including ferrography and spectroscopy) for early anomaly detection.
o Oversee and perform Product/Performance Data Monitoring (PDM) services, recommending corrective and preventive actions.
o Develop and implement condition-based maintenance (CBM) programs to optimize availability and reduce downtime.
· Reliability Engineering (RCM/Strategy/MTBF)
o Develop and implement reliability and maintenance strategies (RCM), with preventive/predictive plans to improve MTBF and lifecycle cost.
o Perform diagnostics on pumps, centrifugal/reciprocating compressors, gearboxes, and Dry Gas Seal systems; recommend corrective actions.
o Identify and manage “bad actors,” drive elimination plans, and prioritize investments to sustain reliability improvements.
· Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
o Lead RCA for failures and recurring issues using structured methodologies (5 Whys, Ishikawa, TapRooT, etc.); issue actionable reports and verify effectiveness of actions.
o Conduct component failure analyses (seals, bearings, rotors, gears, shafts) and propose design, operational, or maintenance improvements.
· Troubleshooting & Technical Support
o Provide day-to-day technical support to Operations and Maintenance to resolve machinery issues, unplanned shutdowns, and control/operating parameter optimizations.
o Offer guidance for commissioning/start-up, operations, overhauls, and controls/monitoring upgrades for rotating equipment.
· Asset Lifecycle & Projects (Design Review & Installations)
o Support capital projects by reviewing specifications for maintainability and reliability and ensuring correct installation/alignment per API/AGMA/ISO.
o Support preparation of Technical Risk Assessments (TRA) and contribute to continuous improvement of processes and systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. MBA/Postgraduate in Reliability, Maintenance, or Asset Management is a plus.
- Experience in rotating equipment operations, maintenance, or reliability in Oil & Gas (offshore/onshore), focusing on centrifugal/reciprocating compressors, pumps, and turbomachinery.
- Strong knowledge of rotating equipment reliability, RCM, CBM, and PDM services.
- Hands-on experience in condition monitoring (vibration, oil analysis, thermography) and failure diagnostics.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting and field condition monitoring experience.
- Solid knowledge of API standards (e.g., 610/617/618/670/682/686), machinery design, lubrication, mechanical seals (incl. Dry Gas Seals), rotor dynamics, balancing, alignment, and modal analysis.
- Working knowledge of international codes and standards (ASME, ANSI, ISO 10816/20816);
- Deep understanding of rotating equipment: pumps, compressors, Dry Gas Seal systems, and gearboxes.
- Vibration analysis certification (e.g., ISO CAT II/III) desired; oil analysis/thermography certifications are advantageous.
Systems & Software:
- Proficiency with CMMS (SAP preferred) and machinery/condition monitoring software.
- OSIsoft PI System and System 1 knowledge is differential. Advanced Microsoft Office: Power BI is a plus.
- Advanced English.
- Active CREA (as applicable for Brazil).
