SAAC Impactmakers Internship Programme
Summary
Interns support children and adults with autism by assisting in education, therapy, and care programs at a specialized hospital and autism services provider in Singapore.
Who is it for?
• For anyone who can commit at least six months of his/her time and is keen to explore the field of moderate-to-severe autism spectrum, with the goal of contributing to or seeking employment in this sector. The programme will commence in Jan 2027.
• Specifically for ‘A’ level, Polytechnic or University graduates who are awaiting examination results, National Service enlistment or taking a gap year to do something different yet meaningful or impactful.
• We also welcome mid-career individuals who are keen to explore the autism sector.
What is this programme about?
SAAC’s range of services support children and youths with autism during their school-going years, and into their adulthood. SAAC comprises St. Andrew’s Autism School (SAAS), two Day Activity Centres (DACs) at Siglap and Sengkang as well as St. Andrew’s Adult Home (SAAH) – Singapore’s first residential facility designed and built to meet the needs of adults with autism.
Successful candidates for the internship programme will be attached to at least one of the above services, depending on the organisational needs and candidates’ strengths and suitability. We also have openings for candidates in our Department for Allied Professionals (Speech & Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Psychology) and Corporate functions such as Finance and Human Resource.
For frontline work, interns can look forward to learn about evidence-based in-class supporting strategies for children/adults with autism, teaching pedagogies from experienced Teachers and Coaches, and how to develop Individual Education or Care Plans for our beneficiaries. In addition, there are also opportunities to be exposed to the skill and art of building creative autism-friendly resources and managing challenging behaviours when beneficiaries experience a meltdown.
