Safety Coordinator

San Diego Humane Society is hiring a full-time Safety Coordinator for our Employee Engagement (HR) team!

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day execution of assigned Occupational Safety and Workers’ Compensation functions, including conducting routine inspections, delivering training, investigating workplace incidents and managing workers' compensation claims.

What you’ll do:

• Conducts routine workplace safety inspections, documents identified hazards, develops and tracks corrective actions through completion.
• Conducts workplace injury, near-miss, and safety incident investigations and performs related follow-up.
• Serves as the routine first point of contact for workplace injury and Workers’ Compensation intake. Submits claims to the insurance carrier and maintains claim information, files, and tracking systems.
• Supports implementation and sustainment of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) and other assigned safety programs.
• Supports the Workplace Violence Prevention Program, including hazard assessments, training, documentation, corrective-action tracking, incident follow-up, and related coordination as assigned.
• Conducts workplace ergonomic assessments as requested, identifying potential hazards and recommending practical improvements to promote employee safety, comfort, and productivity.
• Creates, coordinates and delivers various occupational safety trainings, including during New Hire Orientation and recurring safety training as needed. Serves as a routine technical resource for employee and supervisor safety questions within the scope of the position’s training and authority.

What we’re looking for:

• Requires an associate degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health or a related field; OR completion of a recognized professional certificate program in Occupational Safety and Health; OR current BCSP Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician (OHST®) certification or higher-level BCSP safety credential
• Must have at least one (1) year of related work experience, or any equivalent combination of experience and education. Three (3) or more years of related work experience preferred.
• Workers’ Compensation administration experience is highly preferred.
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and able to learn and maintain safety management and claims systems.
• Must have a valid CA driver’s license and be approved by SDHS insurance carrier to drive a company or personal vehicle for work purposes.

Location & Hours: Based at our San Diego Campus, with expected travel to all SDHS campuses and other local locations as needed using own transportation. This position works 40 hours per week.

Pay: Starting range is between $26.60 – $29.61 per hour.

The listed hiring range for this position depicts the target range of pay rates for candidates. The maximum of the hiring range is reserved for candidates with the highest qualifications and relevant experience. Compensation for internal candidates may increase beyond the listed range based on performance over time. For all candidates, the actual starting pay rate is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to your years of related education and experience, internal pay equity, and position location.
