Safety Engineer
This position is part of the Department of War (DoW), Missile Defense Agency (MDA). The incumbent will be responsible for serving as a subject matter expert with leadership responsibilities in one or more of the functional areas of system safety; component safety management and hazard mitigations; software safety; or safety requirements management and implementing project level safety programs to ensure compliance with DOW and Agency level safety guidance.
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Acq Demo Engineering and Technical Management to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. As a Safety Engineer at the NH-0803-4 broadband level, some of your typical work assignments may include: Serving as a subject matter expert with leadership responsibilities in one or more of the functional areas of system safety; component safety management and hazard mitigations; software safety; or safety requirements management. Implementing project level safety programs to ensure compliance with DOW and Agency level safety guidance. Responsible for designing safety of the products delivered to Warfighter. Identifying hazards which may impact the end user, and ensuring these hazards are mitigated to the greatest extent possible and briefed to the Warfighter and MDA senior leadership. Leading and organizing program level System Safety Working Group (SSWG) meetings to status element software development or testing activities. Attending BMDS Level SSWGs. Ensuring system safety engineering, software safety engineering, and mission flight control requirements are implemented into the field, integrating and evolving systems for assigned tests, maintenance, and operations activities. Providing real-time system safety status to management to identify and mitigate risks. Coordinating efforts with MDA QS, ranges used by MDA, and OGAs (Other Government Agencies) to resolve system safety, software safety, and range/flight safety issues.
