As a full-service sheet metal manufacturing company, our projects range from ventilation and exhaust systems, dust collection and extraction systems, vent and fume hoods, to architectural wraps and cladding, tanks and pressure vessels, structural components, handrails, paint and spray booths, machine guarding, duct cleaning services, and custom fabrication.
Responsibilities
As a Safety Manager, your key responsibility will be to manage and enforce Poynter's Safety Program for the assigned project(s) by identifying, eliminating, and controlling hazardous conditions that may lead to injury and/or property damage. By using and enforcing job-specific safety standards, best management practices, and Poynter's safety program, the Safety Manager shall ensure the safety of all persons and property on the job site resulting in an accident/incident-free project.
Essential functions
- Conduct weekly "Toolbox Safety Meeting" and document content and attendance.
- Conduct safety training for new employees.
- Advise project staff on site-specific safety issues and guidelines.
- Provide leadership on the project and build working relationships with project staff and subcontractor safety representatives to ensure proper compliance.
- Evaluate the need for safety training and make recommendations.
- Educate and advise project staff on safety guidelines and policies.
- Collaborate with foremen on means and methods for performing high-risk activities such as excavations, fall protection, heavy equipment, etc.
- Monitor lockout/tagout (LOTO) and pipe testing procedures.
Jobsite
- Enforce safe work practices and safe working conditions in accordance with all state, federal, and local regulations (including OSHA), as well as Poynter company policies and owner/contractual requirements.
- Conduct daily and/or weekly (as appropriate or specified by job) job site inspections.
- Attend owner meetings.
- Record observations from site inspections and complete required reports.
- Investigate, corroborate, and document all accidents, incidents, and near misses on the jobsite.
- Recommend and implement corrective action based on policies, guidelines, and laws.
- Complete site walks at least 3 to 4 times per day.

What it takes
- 7+ years' safety experience in construction or a similar industry.
- Thorough knowledge of construction methods and OSHA standards.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Able to successfully solve difficult contract and contract-related technical problems requiring excellent judgment.
- Must want to be in the field, not behind a desk.
- Basic working knowledge of MS Office and Windows.
