This position is located at the Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY. The Safety & Occupational Health Specialist plans, schedules, and conducts difficult inspections in establishments and worksites where there is a strong probability of encountering hazardous work processes and materials, and unsafe environmental conditions,

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Duties include but may not be limited to the following: Prepares plans and schedules for safety and occupational health inspections and audits at worksites involving hazardous processes, materials, and conditions. Conducts complex safety and occupational health inspections and audits in accordance with applicable standards and regulations. Evaluates hazardous conditions, equipment, and work practices to determine severity and appropriate remedial measures. Obtains immediate correction of conditions presenting an imminent danger to life or limb. Ensures corrective actions are initiated for identified hazards. Conducts or assists with accident and mishap investigations. Prepares written reports of investigation findings and corrective recommendations. Advises managers and subject-matter specialists on work-process changes to reduce risk and control hazards. Develops safety campaigns and instructional materials to support accident-prevention goals. Delivers technical safety training to personnel. Provides technical guidance to safety committees and operating officials. Develops supplemental safety guidance and written procedures implementing applicable standards, codes, and requirements. Assesses safety programs and organizational policies and procedures for compliance with applicable directives and regulations. Recommends appropriate safety measures in response to technological changes in the workplace. Maintains safety training and historical records. Analyzes safety records and trends to identify conditions warranting revision of safety procedures. Manages data input for safety databases and accident-record systems to ensure data integrity.
