We are seeking a dedicated Safety Officer to join our Behavioral Health team—someone who is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is essential in supporting individuals during vulnerable moments while ensuring safety, dignity, and professionalism are always upheld.

What You’ll Do
- Provide a visible, proactive presence across hospital buildings and grounds to support a safe behavioral health environment
- Use sound judgment and discretion when responding to situations involving safety concerns or potential criminal activity on hospital property
- Actively identify, report, and help prevent safety risks, security incidents, and behaviors that may impact the care environment
- Respond to calls for assistance from hospital staff, patients, visitors, and law enforcement partners
- De-escalate tense, dynamic, and rapidly evolving situations using professionalism, empathy, and training
- Support patient care teams when behavioral interventions or safety-related assistance is needed, including patient restraint when required and appropriate
- Ensure proper screening of individuals entering the facility to maintain a secure environment
- Conduct regular patrols of hospital buildings, grounds, and parking areas, identifying safety and fire hazards
- Enforce hospital policies and procedures that protect patients, staff, and property from theft, unauthorized access, or unsafe conditions
- Assist with emergency response situations, including fire alarms and coordination with police, fire, and emergency management teams
- Support safe traffic flow and parking operations, including monitoring fire lanes and issuing appropriate notices when necessary
- Provide directions and assistance to visitors, patients, and staff as needed
- Collaborate with hospital leadership and the Public Safety team to strengthen a culture of safety and respect
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and ongoing professional development opportunities
What We’re Looking For
- Working knowledge of computers and common software programs
- Valid, non-restricted Indiana driver’s license
- Ability to successfully complete required training after hire
- Strong ability to remain calm and professional when working with individuals in crisis or exhibiting aggressive behavior
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, families, and team members in high-stress situations
- Commitment to teamwork, safety, and providing a supportive care environment
