Description

The Sales Analyst owns the accuracy and profitability of how we price, surcharge and contract with customers. In a contract metal fabrication business, raw material swings, freight and energy costs can erase margin within a quarter; this role makes sure those costs are captured in our pricing and recovered on every invoice.

You will maintain customer price files and contracts, administer material and other surcharges, analyze margin by customer and part, and give Sales and leadership the data they need to quote, negotiate and renew with confidence. You will work daily with Sales, Estimating, Customer Service, Purchasing and Finance.

Key responsibilities

Pricing

  • Maintain customer price lists, part-level pricing and quote history in the ERP; ensure every order and invoice reflects the current agreed price.
  • Support Estimating and Sales on quotes with cost, margin and historical pricing data; flag quotes below target margin.
  • Prepare and track annual and ad-hoc price increase proposals, including customer notification letters and effective dates.
  • Monitor price realization: compare quoted vs. invoiced pricing and identify leakage from discounts, errors or outdated price files.

Surcharges and cost pass-through

  • Administer material surcharges and index-based pricing (e.g., CRU, AMM, LME, mill price sheets for steel, stainless and aluminum) per customer contract terms.
  • Calculate and publish surcharge updates on the contractual cadence (monthly, quarterly) and confirm they are loaded and billed correctly.
  • Track other pass-throughs such as freight, fuel, energy, tariffs (e.g., Section 232) and finishing or coating adders.
  • Quantify cost recovery: material cost change vs. surcharge revenue captured, by customer and in total.

Contracts and customer agreements

  • Maintain a central contract repository and tracker: pricing terms, escalators, surcharge mechanisms, payment terms, volume commitments, LTAs and expiration dates.
  • Alert Sales to upcoming renewals, re-pricing windows and notice deadlines at least 90 days out.
  • Review customer terms and POs for pricing, surcharge and payment-term deviations from our standard terms; escalate exceptions.
  • Support RFQ and contract renewal packages with volume, price and margin history.

Analysis and reporting

  • Produce recurring reports on sales, margin, price/volume/mix, surcharge recovery and customer profitability.
  • Build and maintain dashboards (Power BI or similar) for Sales and leadership.
  • Analyze customer and part profitability to identify accounts or parts that need re-pricing, cost reduction or exit.
  • Support the annual budget and monthly forecast with pricing and surcharge assumptions.

Cross-functional support

  • Partner with Finance on revenue, credit memos, rebates and pricing-related billing disputes.
  • Work with Purchasing to align material cost assumptions with supplier pricing and surcharge timing.
  • Document pricing and surcharge procedures and support internal controls over price changes.
