Sales Consultant – Construction & Forestry

Based in Nelson | Covering Nelson Tasman & the West Coast

About Us

Drummond & Etheridge is seeking a motivated and customer-focused Sales Consultant - Construction & Forestry to join our team based in Nelson. This role services customers throughout the Nelson Tasman region and the West Coast, including Greymouth, providing a unique opportunity to work alongside business owners across a diverse range of industries.

Representing premium brands including John Deere Construction & Forestry, you'll be responsible for developing customer relationships, identifying opportunities, and delivering equipment solutions that help our customers get the job done.

About the Role

As a Sales Consultant, you’ll take ownership of your territory, identifying opportunities, developing relationships and managing the sales process from initial contact through to delivery and ongoing customer support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining strong, long-term customer relationships throughout Nelson Tasman and the West Coast.
  • Identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and actively growing your customer base.
  • Managing existing accounts while developing new customer relationships.
  • Promoting and selling Construction & Forestry equipment, technology and associated solutions.
  • Following up leads and managing opportunities through the complete sales process.
  • Planning and conducting equipment demonstrations, customer visits and industry events.
  • Understanding your customers’ businesses and identifying solutions that provide genuine value.
  • Working closely with our parts and service teams to ensure customers receive outstanding support before and after the sale.
  • Maintaining accurate customer and sales information within our CRM systems.
  • Achieving agreed sales targets and contributing to the overall growth of the territory.
  • Promoting safe work practices and complying with company policies and procedures.

About You

We're open-minded about where you've come from, because we know some of the best equipment salespeople start their careers operating, servicing, or managing machinery rather than selling it.

We’re looking for someone who can bring a strong understanding of the construction, forestry, civil, earthmoving, or heavy equipment sectors, along with the ability to build trusted relationships with customers.

To succeed in this role you'll have:

  • Strong knowledge of construction, forestry, earthmoving, or related equipment.
  • A genuine interest in helping customers find the right solutions for their business.
  • Confidence communicating with a wide range of customers and stakeholders.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to manage your own territory effectively.
  • Good planning, organisational, and time-management skills.
  • A professional and customer-focused approach.
  • A full New Zealand driver's licence.

Previous sales experience is advantageous but not essential.

Why Choose D&E?

At Drummond & Etheridge, you'll be supported by a team that understands the value of long-term relationships and reputation in the industries we serve.

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Build and manage your own customer territory across Nelson Tasman and the West Coast.
  • Develop genuine long-term partnerships with customers
  • Identify new business opportunities and grow your customer base.
  • Enjoy a high level of autonomy, responsibility and flexibility.
  • Work alongside an experienced and supportive team
  • Build a rewarding long-term career with a respected South Island business.

Rather than focusing solely on short-term results, we take a long-term view of customer relationships and territory development. We trust our people to get out in front of customers, identify opportunities, and build success over time.

We Also Offer:

  • Guaranteed 40 hours per week
  • Company vehicle for carrying out your work
  • Options for up to 6 weeks of Annual Leave
  • Staff discounts on our extensive range of parts, products and merchandise, including access to a range of external retailer discounts.

  • Free, independent counselling services across a range of specialties at work and at home. (EAP)
