Job Summary:

We are seeking a knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Nursery Plants Sales Associate. The ideal candidate will have a passion for plants and a strong understanding of horticultural practices. This role is responsible for assisting customers with plant selections, providing expert advice, and ensuring a positive and informative shopping experience. You will be a key part of our sales team, helping to drive revenue while maintaining the health and beauty of our plant inventory.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service & Sales:
    • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
    • Provide expert advice on plant selection, care, and placement for various landscapes and environments.
    • Actively engage with customers to understand their needs and recommend appropriate products (plants, soil, fertilizer, tools, etc.).
    • Process sales transactions accurately using a point-of-sale (POS) system.
    • Effectively upsell and cross-sell related products to enhance the customer experience and increase sales.
  • Plant Care & Maintenance:
    • Ensure all plants in your assigned area are healthy, well-watered, and properly displayed.
    • Monitor plants for signs of pests, disease, or stress and report issues to management.
    • Assist with the unloading, placement, and pricing of new plant deliveries.
    • Maintain a clean and organized sales floor, including sweeping, tidying displays, and removing dead or damaged plant material.
  • Knowledge & Education:
    • Stay current on plant varieties, new arrivals, and best practices in horticulture.
    • Educate customers on topics such as planting techniques, soil types, pest control, and seasonal care.
    • Be able to explain the benefits and features of different plants and products.
  • Team Collaboration:
    • Work collaboratively with all team members to ensure the efficient operation of the nursery.
    • Assist with other duties as needed, including potting, weeding, and general nursery tasks.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in a retail sales environment is required.
    • Prior experience in a nursery, garden center, or landscaping company is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge:
    • Strong knowledge of common nursery plants, including trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, and vegetables.
    • Familiarity with basic plant biology, pest and disease identification, and general horticultural practices.
  • Communication:
    • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex information to a wide range of customers.
    • Friendly, outgoing, and professional demeanor.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work on your feet for extended periods.
    • Ability to lift and carry items up to [e.g., 25-50] pounds.
    • Ability to work in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).
  • Availability:
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays during peak seasons.

Working Conditions:

  • This is an active role that requires working primarily outdoors and in greenhouses.
  • Will be exposed to various weather conditions, dirt, pollen, and plant materials.
  • The position involves frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
