Sales Technician- NY

Role:
The primary function of a Fleet Services Sales Technician is to sell and service the Magline portfolio of products within an assigned territory. Reporting directly to the respective Fleet Services Manager, this role is responsible for selling a portfolio of assembled equipment, parts and services to an established and expanding base of customers with material handling requirements. Fleet Service customers include but are not limited to:
  • Foodservice distribution
  • Beverage distribution
  • Dairy distribution
  • Parcel delivery
  • Water / ice
  • Third party logistic companies
  • Healthcare companies
  • Industrial customers
Channels of distribution include MRO catalogs, independently owned industrial supply dealers, and direct sales to end-use customers. Our products are highly regarded in our focused industries, and include custom designed projects and national account programs.
Responsibilities:
  • Travel to population centers within the territory on a pre-established weekly schedule calling on targeted customers and prospect accounts
  • Assess / inspect customer equipment, provide recommendations or quotes regarding maintenance, repair, upgrades and replacement
  • Determine and negotiate best method of supplying products including on-site inventory management, consignment, direct delivery, drop-ship and truck to customer shipping
  • Develop prospect opportunities through knowledge of territory, assigned leads, pre-planning, cold-calls and on-site demonstrations
  • Establish and maintain customer trust and confidence through consistent, competent, professional representation and honest, ethical business practices
  • Listen to customer needs and work closely with contacts to ensure their applications, specifications and expectations are understood
  • Create strong business relationships by helping customers reduce costs, increase capacity, and improve operator safety and productivity
  • Document and communicate all sales call information including customer needs, applications, challenges, competition and the performance of Magline products
  • Responsible for truck inventory par management, accuracy and ordering
  • Plan for each customer visit in advance to ensure preparedness and ability to meet customer needs and requirements
  • Secure and maintain all assigned equipment including, but not limited to, truck, tools, computer and cell phone, GPS
  • Attend regular training in product specification, maintenance, safety practices, and other areas as necessary
  • Process weekly report and account for all travel and business expenses
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required, college coursework is a plus
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record, with the ability to complete a DOT medical examiner’s certificate
  • Must be willing to travel over night throughout the assigned service territory
  • Have the ability to learn and retain extensive product knowledge, with attention to product detail and specifications
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of work experience in a self-directed sales and/or service position with demonstrated skills and experience with direct customer interaction
  • Ability and willingness to prospect and develop new customers by making cold calls
  • Must demonstrate experience in assembly and repair of mechanical equipment and have basic knowledge of product assembly, parts layout, product organization
  • An understanding of inventory control and management is a plus
  • Must have a basic understanding of general business methods with the ability to read and interpret applicable reports
  • A working knowledge of computers and the ability to learn and adapt to proprietary software is required
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be strong with relationship building (internal and external)
  • Must have excellent organization, planning, prioritization, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team in a virtual environment and be self motivated
  • Experience with commercial driving is desired, must have the ability and inclination to drive a commercial vehicle in heavy traffic and highway for long distances
  • Must be capable of vehicle management and general maintenance schedule

  • Engage in lengthy service work involving the maintenance and repair of material handling equipment in hot / humid or cold weather conditions
  • Demonstrate portfolio of products to customers and other material handling equipment. The weight of the customer goods is often over 350 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in various environments, often in customer parking lots, a shop or warehouse environment on concrete floors. There are areas in the work environment where dust and noise may be present. The employee must travel extensively and will exchange, collect, and convey information in the customer’s work area as customer needs require. The mode of transportation is an assigned company truck and occasional air and rental car.
