Salesforce DevOps Engineer (Communications Cloud)
Summary
Owns CI/CD pipelines and multi-environment management for Salesforce Communications Cloud (Vlocity) in telecom, deploying OmniStudio, EPC, CPQ, and Order Management via Copado/Gearset/SFDX, ensuring stable releases across parallel teams.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced Salesforce DevOps Engineer to own the environment, branching, and release landscape for large-scale Salesforce Communications Cloud (formerly Vlocity) implementations in the telecommunications sector. In this role, you will build and run the CI/CD pipelines that move OmniStudio, EPC, CPQ, and Order Management changes safely from developer sandboxes through integration, UAT, and staging into production.
You will act as the technical owner of deployment quality and environment health, working alongside multiple parallel build pods and giving developers, architects, and QA a stable, repeatable path to release.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Salesforce Communications Cloud using tools such as Copado, Gearset, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or SFDX based automation.
- Own the branching strategy and version control standards across multiple concurrent development streams and build pods.
- Manage the full environment landscape (developer sandboxes, integration, UAT, pre-production, staging, production), including refresh cycles, sandbox seeding, and environment allocation.
- Handle the deployment of OmniStudio components (OmniScripts, FlexCards, Integration Procedures, DataRaptors), EPC product data, CPQ configuration, and Order Management orchestration artefacts, which do not deploy through standard metadata alone.
- Build and maintain data pack migration processes for EPC and OmniStudio, including dependency resolution, versioning, and conflict handling between environments.
- Automate static code analysis, test execution, and quality gates so that defects are caught before they reach integration testing.
- Run the release calendar and deployment packages, prepare rollback plans, and support release readiness, CAB, and go live approvals.
- Support production deployments, monitoring, and hypercare, including incident triage on deployment and environment issues.
- Produce and maintain environment strategy documentation, operational runbooks, and deployment records for governance and audit.
- Work with architects, developers, QA, and the Release Manager to unblock delivery and reduce cycle time between build and test.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Must-Have
- 4+ years in a Salesforce DevOps, release engineering, or platform engineering role, with hands on ownership of pipelines and environments.
- Direct experience deploying Salesforce Communications Cloud or Industries (Vlocity) components, including OmniStudio data packs and EPC product data migration.
- Strong practical command of Git based branching models (feature, release, hotfix) applied across multiple parallel workstreams.
- Hands on experience with at least one enterprise Salesforce DevOps platform (Copado, Gearset, Flosum, AutoRABIT) and with SFDX and Salesforce CLI.
- Proven experience managing multi environment landscapes, including sandbox refresh planning, data seeding, and environment conflict resolution.
- Experience delivering on telecommunications or other complex enterprise programmes with multiple integrated downstream systems.
Technical Depth
- Solid understanding of the Salesforce metadata model, deployment limits, and the differences between metadata, data, and data pack based deployment.
- Scripting ability in one or more of Bash, Python, PowerShell, or Node for pipeline automation and custom deployment steps.
- Working knowledge of Apex, LWC, and Flows, enough to review changes, diagnose failed deployments, and advise developers on deployable patterns.
- Experience configuring automated test execution, Apex test coverage gates, and static analysis (PMD, Salesforce Code Analyzer, or similar).
- Familiarity with integration platforms and middleware in a telecom estate (Azure Integration Services, MuleSoft, or equivalent) and how integration changes are coordinated with Salesforce releases.
- Experience with Agile delivery at scale, working across several scrum teams releasing into shared environments.
Preferred Certifications
- Salesforce Certified Administrator
- Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I
- Copado Certified DevOps Professional or Fundamentals
- Salesforce Certified Communications Cloud Accredited Professional (a plus, not required)
- Salesforce Certified OmniStudio Developer
NICE TO HAVE
- Prior System Integrator (SI) or consulting experience on large scale Salesforce transformations for global Telecom Service Providers (TSPs).
- Experience setting up a DevOps practice from scratch, including tool selection, standards definition, and onboarding delivery teams.
- Exposure to observability and platform monitoring tooling, event monitoring, and production support command centre operations.
- Experience with data migration tooling and cutover execution alongside release activity.
