Sawmill Manager

The Baillie Group is one of North America's largest hardwood lumber manufacturers, distributors, and exporters. We are a provider of hardwood logs, hardwood lumber and proprietary grade hardwood lumber products.
Midwest Hardwoods, under Baillie Group management, is searching for a Sawmill Manager in Wisconsin. The role directs and manages a sawmill and kiln operation workforce in the areas of safety, production, maintenance, and quality to pursue continuous improvement. This person will need to work in concert with maintenance, and procurement. This is a hands on, boots on the floor role that will direct and manage all mill operations while striving to continuously improve all areas of mill performance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate activities with buyers, lumber sales, mill and drying operation to ensure the total manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Ensure the safe operation of the plant by training employees in safe practices and eliminating or controlling safety hazards. Be aware of OSHA regulations and maintain facility in accordance with all local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
Control operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries of workers.
Establish and monitor overall plant performance for production and quality standards. Monitor sawing of lumber to ensure logs are used for their highest and best use and waste is minimized.
Maintain a preventative maintenance plan focused on eliminating or reducing downtime.
Manage capital asset maintenance.
Control and minimize labor overtime and repair expenses.
Maintain existing plant facilities and equipment; replace, or make adjustments to plant facilities and equipment when necessary.
Provide leadership and training to accomplish the company goals and objectives.
Enforce plant organization, housekeeping and cleanliness among personnel.
Provide direction, development and leadership to managers and supervisors.
Encourage and foster a sense of high, positive morale among the workforce.
Desired Skills and Experience:
4-year degree, in a related field is a plus, but not required
Experience in sawmill, kiln, concentration yard, or related hardwood lumber operations is preferred; candidates with comparable manufacturing or wood products backgrounds will also be considered.
Proven ability to respectfully manage a diverse workforce
Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook
