SCHOOL HEALTH OFFICER

  1. Administer and provide health assessments.

a) Oversee the implementation and administration of the CLAP (Comprehensive Learning Assistance Program) in collaboration with school bridge coordinator and Learning Director.

b) Coordinate with teachers, parents, and external resources to identify students in need of CLAP services and ensure timely interventions.

c) Maintain accurate records of CLAP assessments, progress, and outcomes to track student development and inform future interventions.

d) Obtain a health and developmental history of all students.

e) Screen, evaluate, maintain, interpret cumulative health data and findings for deficits in vision, hearing, scoliosis, growth, etc. to accommodate the individual needs of students.

f) Identify health findings, which do not fall within the normal range.

g) Assist with physical examinations when conducted in the school.

h) Conduct mental health screenings and assessments to identify students experiencing emotional or psychological challenges, providing appropriate referrals and follow-up support.


  1. Develop and implement a health plan.

a) Interpret the health status of students to school personnel.

b) Provide ongoing health information to students, parents, class teachers and health agencies.

c) Recommends and helps to implement modifications of school programs to meet students' health needs.

d) Utilizes existing health resources to provide appropriate care of students.

  1. Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)

a) Update and implement the Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) manual in accordance with local regulations and best practices.

b) Provide training and guidance to school staff on HSE policies and procedures, including emergency response protocols and risk mitigation strategies.

c) Serve as a resource for addressing health and safety concerns, collaborating with stakeholders to develop effective solutions, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment.




  1. Organization culture

a) Identify areas of inconsistency to the organization’s culture across teams within the school. This could be due to outdates procedures, lack of clarity in the SOPs or deliberate adaptation to specific circumstances.

b) Document instances where departures from SOPs are observed – nature of departure, individuals involved and the context surrounding the deviation and document whether departures from SOPs result in positive outcomes or if they pose risks to inefficiencies to the organization.

c) Analyse data collected to identify patterns and trends regarding alignment and departure from SOPs, consider the impact on the organization and evaluate the implications of deviations from SOPs on organizational effectiveness and efficiency.

d) Make recommendations based on analysis - revisions or updates of SOPs, strategies for fostering a culture that adheres to SOPs.

e) Implementation - work with school leadership to implement recommended changes and improvement - training and support to staff members, monitor and evaluate the impact of changes over time

  1. Plan and implement school health management protocols for the child with chronic health problems, including the administration of medication.
  2. Develop procedures and provide for crises intervention for acute illness, injury and emotional disturbances.
  3. Promote and assist in the control of communicable diseases through preventive immunisation programs, early detection, surveillance and reporting of contagious diseases.
  4. Recommend provisions for a school environment conducive to learning.
  5. Serve as a resource person to the classroom teacher and administrator in health instruction

and as a member of the health curriculum development committee.

  1. Coordinate school health activities and partner with the Community Services Manager to

serve as a liaison person between the home, school, and community.

  1. Assist in the formation of health policies, goals and objectives for the school unit.
  2. Taking responsibility to stay conscious of the big picture (For God and Humanity) in the

execution of daily activities



Requirements

Administrative skills

  1. Responsible for maintaining and updating cumulative health records.
  2. Helps develop/revise school health policies, procedures and standing orders.
  3. Prepare the budget for school health supplies.
  4. Review, revise and implement emergency policies, including in-service health and safety programs for personnel.
  5. Prepare first aid kits for each building.
  6. Organize, instruct, and supervise school health volunteers or assistants.
  7. Report regularly in writing to the principal on school health activities.
  8. Implement the school medication policy and procedure.
