Scientist, SXY Lab (IMCB) (2719)

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Scientist to join our Translational Retinal Research Laboratory @ Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB). The successful candidate will lead innovative research programmes focused on understanding retinal disease mechanisms and developing nextgeneration therapies for Age-related Macular Degeneration {AMD) and other retinal diseases.

The Scientist will integrate advanced stem cell biology, retinal disease modelling, and multi-omics approaches to identify disease mechanisms, therapeutic targets, and biomarkers that can accelerate translational development and clinical impact.

Responsibilities

• Design, execute, and optimize experiments involving stem cell-derived retinal cell types, including retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and related ocular cell populations.

• Develop and apply advanced in-vitro retinal disease models to investigate disease mechanisms and therapeutic interventions.

• Generate, analyse, and interpret complex biological datasets to identify disease-associated pathways, biomarkers, and therapeutic targets.

• Collaborate closely with bioinformaticians, clinicians, and multidisciplinary research teams to integrate molecular, cellular, imaging, and functional datasets.

• Contribute to the development and evaluation of novel biologic therapies for retinal diseases.

• Mentor Research Officers and interns in experimental design, laboratory techniques, and data analysis.

• Present research findings at internal meetings, scientific conferences, and external collaborations.

• Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to grant applications, progress reports, and intellectual property disclosures.

• Maintain accurate scientific records and ensure compliance with institutional, biosafety, and regulatory requirements.

Job Requirements

• PhD in Stem Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Ophthalmology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Bioengineering, or a related discipline.

• Strong publication record demonstrating independent scientific contributions.

• Experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Retinal biology

• Stem cell biology

• Regenerative medicine

• Hands-on experience with advanced molecular and cellular techniques including cell culture, gene expression analysis, imaging, immunohistochemistry, and functional assays.

• Experience with single-cell sequencing, bioinformatics, or other omics-based technologies is highly desirable but not necessary.

• Familiarity with data analysis using R, Python, or related computational tools is advantageous.

• Demonstrated ability to independently design experiments, troubleshoot technical challenges, and drive projects forward.

• Excellent scientific writing, presentation, and communication skills.

• Strong collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
