SDE1 - Backend Developer

As an SDE1 - Backend Developer, you will contribute to building and maintaining the core systems that power our platform. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including frontend developers and product teams, to develop scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend services. Your work will focus on building APIs, handling data efficiently, and supporting features that enhance the overall user experience for our customers and local communities.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to designing, developing and maintaining the backend system that powers the platform.
• Closely work with our front-end engineers to connect data pipelines to our user-facing platform and other presentation layers.
• Tackling technology problems by continuously improving, handling, processing, and presenting data.
• Developing for scale, building scalable SOA and microservices.
• Building reusable code and libraries for future use.
• Collaborating with other team members.
• Writing developer documentation.
• Writing unit test cases and integration tests.
• Documenting best practices for how to extend products/features.
• Optimising backend services for maximum speed and scalability.

Requirements:

• 0.5 to 3 years of experience as a software developer.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Strong proficiency in Python programming - write extensible, stable, unit-tested code
• Extensive experience in Django/Flask/FastAPI frameworks.
• Solid understanding of software design principles, concurrency, synchronisation, memory management, data structures, algorithms, etc.
• Experience building scalable systems based on service-oriented/microservices architecture and cloud-native services (GCP)
• Strong experience building with one or more technologies such as Kafka, Celery, Redis, Relational and NoSQL databases (Mysql, MongoDB, etc. )
• Experience using developer tools and technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker is strongly preferred.

Nice to Have:

• Basic understanding of REST API design and backend architecture.
• Exposure to cloud platforms like Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Familiarity with Docker and containerised applications.
• Experience working with Git and version control workflows.
• Understanding of databases (SQL or NoSQL, like MySQL or MongoDB).
• Exposure to asynchronous processing or messaging systems (e. g., Kafka).
• Interest in building scalable and high-performance systems.
• Personal projects, internships, or open-source contributions.
• Familiarity with basic DevOps practices / CI-CD pipelines.
• Understanding of API testing tools (Postman, etc. )
