We are seeking a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join the Order Execution – Streaming (OXS) team. OXS builds low-latency, scalable, and extensible services that deliver order, position, and balance data to TradeStation and Monex clients across web, desktop, mobile, and third-party APIs.
This is a growth role on an established quality engineering group. OXS has already invested in a purpose-built C# regression framework that replaced the team's legacy Postman suites, and your work will center on extending that framework, broadening its coverage, and making it reliable enough that developers trust it and run it themselves. You will be paired with senior SDETs rather than left to figure out a complex distributed system alone. We are looking for someone with a genuine instinct for breaking software, the patience to chase down an intermittent failure, and the judgment to tell a real defect from a flaky test.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Test Automation and Framework Work
- Write, extend, and maintain automated tests in the OXS C# regression framework covering many domains
- Create and manage automated testing suites including unit, component, integration, and end-to-end regression tests
- Create, automate, and execute test plans that generate artifacts validating proper functioning of OXS services and provide quality-related metrics
- Turn user stories and acceptance criteria into concrete test cases, including negative and failure-path scenarios
- Contribute to framework extensibility and reusable test libraries rather than one-off scripts
- Help build and maintain mocks, stubs, and simulated upstream dependencies so tests can run without contending for shared environments
- Partner with Engineering Managers and Technical Leads to improve software quality and testability
- Evaluate and introduce new testing tools, methodologies, and automation capabilities to improve engineering efficiency and product quality
Validating a Streaming Platform
- Test gRPC streaming interfaces, REST APIs, and event-driven message flows the way our customers actually consume them
- Validate correctness of streamed state — ordering, duplication, staleness, and reconciliation between OXS state and what downstream consumers receive
- Verify behavior across account provisioning, sharding, and multi-tenant scenarios
- Participate in load, stress, and soak testing to confirm the platform holds its latency and throughput expectations
Quality in the Delivery Pipeline
- Execute functional and regression testing across the environments as work moves toward production
- Support the team's change management flow, including validating change requests and recording test evidence for releases
- Maintain test runs, results, and evidence in TestRail so every ticket has a traceable quality record
- Support and improve regression execution in GitLab CI pipelines, including scheduled and on-demand runs
- Help developers outside the SDET group run the regression suite locally — improve setup tooling, documentation, and onboarding so quality shifts left
- Manage test account pools and reservations responsibly in shared environments, and help identify where additional capacity is needed
- Identify quality risks early in the software development lifecycle and recommend mitigation strategies to engineering leadership

- Represent quality engineering during planning, architecture, and release readiness discussions
Defects, Documentation, and Support
- Identify, document, reproduce, and track defects with enough detail that another engineer can act without a conversation
- Investigate test failures to determine whether the cause is a product defect, a framework issue, an environment problem, or a data problem
- Participate in code reviews and provide guidance to the team on designing for testability
- Contribute to production support and post-incident verification, including validating fixes and adding regression coverage for anything that reached customers
- Raise quality and risk concerns early — developers write tests too, but this role is completely focused on quality
The Skills You Bring:
- Hands-on experience with C# and .NET; ability to read and write production-quality test code, not just scripts
- Experience with at least one test framework (xUnit, NUnit, MSTest, or equivalent)
- Ability to translate requirements and acceptance criteria into thorough test cases
- Experience testing REST APIs, and familiarity with streaming or bidirectional protocols (gRPC, WebSockets)
- Database experience sufficient to validate data and state (SQL Server, NoSQL, Redis)
- One or more scripting languages suitable for automation, such as Bash, PowerShell, or Python
- Source control with Git, and familiarity with continuous integration tooling (GitLab CI preferred; Azure DevOps or Jenkins acceptable)
- Familiarity with containerization and cloud-native technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS)
- API and network debugging tools (Postman, curl, Wireshark, browser developer tools)
- A genuine passion for analysis and testing, with strong organization and prioritization skills
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, and the ability to adapt and learn quickly
- Willingness to be responsive during US equity and futures market hours, when release and support activity is concentrated
- Demonstrated ability to write automated tests in an object-oriented language, whether from professional experience, internships, or substantial personal projects
- Practical asynchronous programming and multithreading understanding preferred
- Familiarity with event streaming or messaging systems, especially Apache Kafka or AWS MSK, preferred
- Experience with mocking, stubbing, or service virtualization to isolate upstream dependencies preferred
- Exposure to performance, load, or stress testing tools (k6, JMeter, Gatling, Locust) preferred
- Familiarity with observability tooling for diagnosing failures (Grafana, Datadog, OpenTelemetry) preferred
- Experience with a test management tool such as TestRail preferred
- Familiarity with audited change management processes (e.g. ServiceNow) preferred
- Comfort using AI tooling as part of daily engineering workflow — test generation, failure triage, and documentation — preferred
- Agile development and Test-Driven Development practices preferred
- Brokerage/trading platform experience preferred
- Experience testing distributed, event-driven, or microservice-based systems preferred
- Experience validating streaming or real-time data flows rather than request/response APIs alone preferred
- Exposure to Kafka topics, partitions, consumer groups, and lag troubleshooting preferred
- Experience building or maintaining a test automation framework, not only writing tests within one preferred
- Experience in financial services, brokerage, trading, or another regulated, high-availability domain preferred
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience
- 3+ years of application testing or development experience
- Ability to work core hours aligned to US market hours (approximately 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM ET)
Desired Qualifications:
- 2+ years of professional SDET, QA automation, or software development experience
- Professional working proficiency in English and Spanish
