Seasonal General Laborer - Highway

The Portage County Highway department is hiring Seasonal General Laborers! These are great positions, especially if you enjoy working outdoors.
Starting pay: $24.71 / hour
What are the primary job duties?
- Perform manual road construction and maintenance tasks.
- Install and remove snow fence
- Replace guardrail, road patching
- Cut brush, tar cracks, use hand and small power tools
- Collect refuse from various roadways and other similar manual tasks.
- Operate light and medium duty equipment for plowing, sanding, salting as well as for the transporting of maintenance materials.
- Operate industrial tractors for roadside maintenance
- Drive quad and tri axle trucks engaged in the transportation of construction and maintenance materials.
- Operate higher level equipment in accordance with established procedures
What are the minimum qualifications?
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Commercial Drivers License with Air Brake Endorsement (CDL-Class B) required.
- Safe driving record is required.
- Class A Manual CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements is strongly preferred.
- Experience working physically demanding duties.
- Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
- Ability to perform hard physical labor for extended periods of time in adverse weather conditions.
