Beyond Formulas & Facts – Inspire Curious Minds

Join Us as a Secondary & IGCSE Mathematics & Science Teacher

Mathematics and Science are not simply subjects to be memorised. They are ways of understanding patterns, exploring how the world works, asking questions, and making sense of the life around us.

At TongXin Waldorf School, we are looking for a Secondary & IGCSE Mathematics & Science Teacher who can bring these subjects to life while guiding students towards strong academic foundations and IGCSE readiness.

This role is suited to an educator who is confident in Mathematics and Science, with the ability to teach a combination of Secondary Mathematics, General Science, IGCSE Biology and/or IGCSE Chemistry, depending on experience and the needs of the school.

We are looking for someone who can hold both academic rigour and a human-centred approach—helping students prepare for examinations while developing curiosity, confidence, independent thinking, and a deeper understanding of the world.

A Teaching Experience That's Different – And Supported

You don't need prior experience in Waldorf education—just a passion for teaching, a strong subject foundation, and an open mind.

At TongXin, we encourage teachers to move beyond rote learning. Mathematics can be discovered through patterns, problem-solving and real-life applications; Science can be explored through observation, experimentation and connection with nature.

You will have the freedom to bring your own creativity into the classroom while working within the academic expectations of the IGCSE curriculum.

Training and peer support will be provided.

What You'll Do (With Flexibility & Guidance)

  • Balance IGCSE Preparation with Deeper Learning – Prepare students systematically for Cambridge IGCSE examinations while helping them understand the concepts and reasoning behind what they learn.
  • Bring Mathematics to Life – Connect mathematical thinking with everyday life, design, finance, technology, nature, and the world around us.
  • Make Science Meaningful – Help students explore Biology and Chemistry through observation, practical work, experimentation, and real-world applications.
  • Work in Small Classes – With approximately 10–15 students per class, you will have the space to understand individual learners and personalise your teaching.
  • Develop Independent Thinkers – Encourage students to ask questions, explain their reasoning, investigate ideas, and become confident learners.
  • Support Different Learning Needs – Identify gaps in students' foundations and provide appropriate support as they progress towards their IGCSE examinations.
  • Lead Practical & Experiential Learning – Use experiments, investigations, projects, problem-solving and hands-on activities to deepen understanding.
  • Connect Across Subjects – Collaborate with other teachers to create interdisciplinary learning experiences connecting Mathematics and Science with the arts, environment, technology, and practical life.
  • Be Part of a Thriving School Community – Take part in school activities, collaborative planning, parent communication, and the wider life of the TongXin community.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has a strong foundation in Mathematics and/or Science and experience teaching at secondary level.
  • Is able to teach Secondary Mathematics confidently.
  • Is able to teach one or more of General Science, IGCSE Biology and IGCSE Chemistry.
  • Has experience teaching or preparing students for Cambridge IGCSE or an equivalent secondary curriculum.
  • Can explain complex concepts clearly and patiently to students with different levels of ability.
  • Enjoys helping students understand why something works, rather than simply memorising the answer.
  • Values both academic rigour and creativity.
  • Is comfortable with practical, inquiry-based and student-centred learning.
  • Is reflective, collaborative, reliable, and willing to learn.
  • Is open to exploring Waldorf-inspired education and becoming part of a close school community.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Science, Education, or a related field.
  • A recognised teaching qualification such as B.Ed., PGCE, DPLI/PDPP, Diploma in Education, or equivalent.
  • Relevant experience teaching Mathematics and/or Science at secondary level.
  • Experience with Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics, Biology and/or Chemistry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience preparing students for IGCSE examinations, including assessment and examination strategies.
  • Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to work effectively with students of different abilities and learning needs.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience teaching more than one subject across Mathematics and Science.
  • Experience in an international, private, alternative, or independent school.
  • Experience with practical laboratory work and scientific investigations.
  • Experience with project-based, inquiry-based, or interdisciplinary learning.
  • Experience supporting students who need additional help strengthening their academic foundations.
  • Interest in STEM projects, science fairs, environmental projects, or student-led investigations.
  • Familiarity with Waldorf education or other holistic approaches to education is welcomed, but not required.

If you are particularly strong in Mathematics or Science, with solid secondary or IGCSE teaching experience and a willingness to work collaboratively across subjects, we would still be interested in hearing from you.

We are open to exploring how your strengths could fit within our teaching team.

More Than an IGCSE Classroom – A Space to Discover

This is a full-time position, though we are open to considering part-time arrangements for suitable candidates.

At TongXin, we believe that preparing students for examinations and nurturing the whole person can happen together.

Our students need teachers who can help them build strong academic foundations while also showing them that learning is more than finding the right answer. It is about learning how to think, question, explore, and understand.

If you believe Mathematics and Science should be experienced—not simply memorised—we would love to hear from you.

Bring your knowledge, curiosity, and love of learning to TongXin, and help young people discover the patterns, questions, and possibilities that shape our world. 🌿
