Summary
Teaches secondary school students Literature in Singapore, aligning lessons with the MOE syllabus, assessing progress, and preparing students for exams.
Responsibilities
· Plan and deliver engaging Literature lessons aligned with the Singapore MOE secondary syllabus.
· Assess students’ learning needs and customise lesson plans to develop their analytical and writing abilities.
· Teach students to analyse poetry, and drama through close reading and thoughtful interpretation.
· Develop students’ understanding of themes, characters, settings, structure, language, tone, imagery, and literary techniques.
· Guide students in interpreting unseen texts and responding confidently to passage-based and essay questions.
· Teach students to construct coherent literary arguments supported by relevant textual evidence.
· Encourage students to explore different interpretations and express personal responses with clarity and insight.
· Mark assignments, monitor student progress, and provide timely, constructive feedback.
· Prepare students for school assessments and national examinations.
· Develop students’ appreciation of literature, critical thinking, creativity, and analytical writing skills.
· Create a positive, engaging, and disciplined learning environment.
· Communicate professionally with parents regarding students’ academic progress.
· Develop teaching resources, text guides, lesson materials, and examination-practice activities.

Requirements
· GCE A-Level, Diploma, Degree, or equivalent qualification in Education, English Literature, English Language, or a related field.
· Excellent command of spoken and written English.
· Strong knowledge of prose, poetry, drama, literary analysis, and essay-writing techniques.
· Familiarity with the Singapore MOE Secondary Literature in English syllabus and assessment requirements.
· Ability to guide students in close reading, textual analysis, and evidence-based writing.
· Passion for literature and for teaching secondary school students.
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
· Responsible, patient, enthusiastic, and committed to student success.
· Prior teaching or tutoring experience is an advantage but not required.
