Security Electronics Embedded Technici

APIC Solutions is seeking a hands-on Security Electronics Embedded Technician to be permanently embedded at a single detention/corrections facility, responsible for the ongoing maintenance, servicing, and reliability of its security electronics systems. This role owns the facility's preventative maintenance program planning and documenting recurring inspections and servicing while also troubleshooting issues and supporting occasional installation of new or upgraded components. The technician serves as the facility's dedicated point of contact for its security electronics systems, including participation in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Preventative Maintenance & System Operations

• Develop, maintain, and execute a preventative maintenance schedule for all facility security electronics systems, including access control, video surveillance, digital audio, and PLC-based control panels
• Conduct recurring inspections and servicing to proactively identify and correct wear or potential failures before they affect facility operations
• Perform functional testing and calibration of facility security systems on a routine basis to confirm proper operation and continued compliance with design specifications and regulatory standards
• Maintain detailed preventative maintenance records, inspection logs, and service documentation for every facility system

Field Support & Troubleshooting

• Serve as the dedicated, permanently embedded technician for the assigned facility, working directly with facility staff, project managers, and installation crews on system maintenance, upgrades, and occasional new installations
• Diagnose and resolve field-level issues with installed security electronics systems; escalate design-level or engineering issues to senior technical engineers as needed
• Assist with the installation, wiring, and termination of new or upgraded low-voltage security electronics components as facility needs and project schedules require
• Read and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system design documentation; flag discrepancies between design and field conditions

On-Call & Client Interaction

• Participate in a rotating after-hours and weekend on-call schedule to provide emergency response, troubleshooting, and system support for the facility outside of normal business hours
• Represent the company professionally on-site, addressing client and facility staff questions and escalating concerns to project management as appropriate
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 - 3 years of experience servicing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or installing low-voltage security, access control, or electronic control systems
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record
• Ability to pass extensive background check due to the nature of the working environment (Detention Facility)
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs; climb ladders and work at heights; work in varied on-site environments, including confined spaces within the correctional facility

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in corrections, detention, or other secure facility environments
• Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST)
• Low-voltage or limited-energy electrician license
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
• Network+ (helpful for IP-based access control and video systems)
• Experience executing a preventative maintenance program for electronic, security, or control systems
• Hands-on experience with access control, CCTV/video surveillance, and intercom/audio systems
• Basic network troubleshooting for IP-based security devices

Essential Skills

• Technical Proficiency - Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) as applied to low-voltage systems; proficiency with hand tools, wire terminations, conduit, and low-voltage cabling (Cat5e/6, coax; fiber a plus); basic understanding of PLC-based control panels; ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
• System Knowledge - Proficient with AutoCAD, REVIT, or Bluebeam drawings (reading/interpretation required); proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; comfortable using mobile apps and tools for field documentation and reporting
• Problem-Solving - Strong hands-on troubleshooting ability with an emphasis on resolving field issues efficiently and safely under the guidance of engineering and project management
• Independence & Reliability - Able to work independently as the sole embedded technician on-site; professional demeanor when interacting with corrections staff and clients; reliable, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented; willing and available to participate in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule
