About the Client

My is a specialist cyber security business working with organisations to improve their security capability, visibility and resilience.

They are looking for a Security Engineer to join their Auckland team in a hands-on role focused on detection engineering, security automation and improving how security tooling works together..


About the role

This role sits between cyber security and software engineering.

You will be responsible for improving how suspicious and malicious activity is identified, alerted on and, where possible, contained.

A big part of the role will also be automating processes between security tools, improving data flow and reducing repetitive manual work for security analysts.

This is not a traditional SOC Analyst role. It will suit someone who enjoys scripting, building, integrating and solving security problems through automation

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain security automation tooling and integrations

  • Build scripts and tools to improve security visibility and operational efficiency

  • Create and maintain detection logic and threat detection capabilities

  • Automate security workflows using APIs, playbooks and security tooling

  • Improve data flow and integrations between security platforms

  • Support SIEM, SOAR, EDR/XDR and network detection capabilities

  • Embed security best practices into development environments

  • Contribute to security architecture and engineering improvements

  • Work closely with developers and technical teams


What We’re Looking For

You will ideally have a background across Security Engineering, Detection Engineering, DevSecOps, AppSec or software engineering with a strong security focus.

Programming & Automation

  • Python, PowerShell, Ruby, C or similar

  • Strong scripting and development practices

  • Experience working with APIs and integrations

  • Understanding of databases

Security & Detection

  • Detection engineering experience

  • Creating and tuning threat detection logic

  • KQL / Kusto Query Language

  • YARA-L

  • SQL or similar query languages

  • Understanding of MITRE ATT&CK

Other Useful Experience

  • SIEM and SOAR technologies

  • EDR / XDR

  • Security workflow automation

  • CI/CD pipelines

  • Cloud-native environments

  • DevSecOps

  • Application Security / AppSec
