Security Officer
Summary
Provide onsite security at the Milwaukee Art Museum, enforcing safety policies, monitoring alarms/CCTV, and ensuring visitor and artwork protection.
Supervisor: Director of Campus Safety & Security
Starting Wage Range: $17.00/hour
General Purpose:
Under direction from the Director of Campus Safety and Security, provide security for the Milwaukee Art Museum by implementing security policies and procedures related to the protection of art, the security of museum facilities, and the safety and protection of staff and visitors.
Educational/Experience Requirements:
1. High School graduate, Associates Degree preferred.
2. 1-year minimum, 3 years preferred experience in protective, safety, and/or security work.
3. Demonstrated customer service skills. Enthusiastically welcome, assist, and interact with museum visitors.
4. Ability to stand for extensive periods of time.
5. Good written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information.
6. Ability to use independent judgment and discretion to make immediate decisions related to enforcement of regulations.
7. Experience monitoring various types of alarms systems, CCTV and/or card access systems.
8. Ability to exercise excellent judgment by carrying out established policies and procedures for security and safety of people, artwork and Museum facilities in a complete, consistent and timely manner.
9. Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to change in a dynamically moving event-driven environment.
10. Must have the ability to remain calm in stressful situations and help resolve customer complaints.
11. Ability to adhere to Museum policies and support management decisions in a positive, professional manner.
12. Ability to work overtime, varying shifts, weekends and holidays as required.
13. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft software, i.e. Word, Excel, Outlook.
14. Ability to successfully complete department required training within 6 months of employment and maintain proficiency throughout employment. This includes but is not limited to; CPR/AED for Adult/Child and Basic First Aid Certification, Communication Center, Report Writing, Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Emergency Management required courses.
15. Ability to investigate and file appropriate written documentation of findings.
16. Ability to learn and proficiently operate all department software, physical and technical applications and emergency response equipment.
