Security Project Engineer / Security Systems Estimator
Summary
Designs commercial security systems (access control, CCTV, intrusion detection) and creates compliant submittal packages while coordinating with teams throughout project lifecycles.
ABOUT
THE ROLE
The Security Project
Engineer/Estimator designs and engineers’ commercial electronic security
systems, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection,
intercom, and related network infrastructure and translates project
requirements into complete, code-compliant submittal packages. This role
partners closely with project managers, field technicians, vendors, and
contractors from design through commissioning, and provides technical support
to the estimating team on assigned bids.
WHAT
YOU'LL DO
System Design & Engineering
• Design
and engineer commercial electronic security systems, including access control,
video surveillance (CCTV), intrusion detection, intercom, and related network
infrastructure.
• Review
project specifications, architectural, telecom, and electrical drawings, and
customer requirements to ensure code compliance and efficient system design.
• Ensure
designs comply with manufacturer requirements, engineering standards, and
standard industry practices.
Submittals & Documentation
• Prepare
complete submittal packages, including shop drawings, equipment wiring
schedules, equipment wiring details, bill of materials, and product
documentation.
• Generate
and respond to RFIs, engineering revisions, and change orders, as applicable.
Project Coordination &
Support
• Coordinate
with project managers, field technicians, vendors, consultants, and general and
electrical contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
• Provide
technical support during installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and
project closeout phases.
• Support
estimating with technical design assistance on assigned bids.
Requirements
• 3–7+
years of experience designing commercial electronic security systems.
• Strong
knowledge of access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, intercom,
low-voltage cabling, and network fundamentals.
• Ability
to interpret architectural, electrical, and telecommunications construction
drawings.
• Experience
preparing submittals, equipment schedules, wiring schematics, and system
layouts.
• Strong
organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent
written and verbal communication ability.
• Proficiency
with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.
Preferred
• Experience
with leading manufacturers such as Genetec, LenelS2, Lenel OnGuard, Software
House, Bosch, Axis, Hanwha, Aiphone, Brivo, Verkada, and similar platforms.
• Manufacturer
certifications or technical training.
• A
strong sense of ownership, accountability, and a customer-focused,
self-motivated mindset.
• Willingness
to mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge.
