Security Specialist

Summary

Oversees classified and sensitive information security for a U.S. Army command, interpreting policy and conducting SCIF inspections to protect defense data.

About the Position: This position is in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Employees occupying DCIPS positions are in the Excepted Service and must adhere to U.S. Code, Title 10, as well as Department of Defense Instruction 1400.25. This position is located at NETCOM Headquarters ACofS G-2 at Fort Huachuca, AZ.

Serves as an action officer responsibile for policy and oversight of an Information Security (INFOSEC) program, especially the requirements for the protection of classified/sensitive defense information, material, and equipment.

Interprets DOD and DA policy and develops supplemental policy for Command and sub-command activities.

Provides control and oversight of all Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI), and the application of physical, personnel, and information systems security where SCI material is involved.

Provides security oversight for the SCI mission and provides appropriate guidance, direction, advice, and assistance to the Command Headquarters, subordinate units, and other organizations supported by established support agreements.

Conducts security design reviews of Controlled Access Areas, Open Storage Area, and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) blueprints, construction/renovation plans and provides technical security support for access control.

Performs analytical, operational, advisory, and evaluative work to protect/safeguard classified/sensitive information and security operations.

Conducts on-site security inspections, SCIF surveys, and reviews.

Serves as a technical authority and provides advice, guidance and direction to security specialists for NETCOM, a two star command, for information security and policy interpretation and application.
