Job Purpose
The Seismology Specialist is responsible for providing technical expertise in seismic hazard assessment, earthquake engineering inputs, and geological investigations to support the siting, design, licensing, construction, and operation of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) projects. The role ensures compliance with applicable nuclear regulatory requirements and international standards related to seismic safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site-specific seismic hazard assessments for proposed SMR locations.
- Develop and validate seismic design basis parameters, including Safe Shutdown Earthquake (SSE) and Operating Basis Earthquake (OBE) criteria.
- Perform geological, tectonic, and seismological evaluations to support site characterization studies.
- Analyze historical and instrumental earthquake data and develop seismic source models.
- Support probabilistic and deterministic seismic hazard analyses.
- Provide technical input to structural, civil, and geotechnical engineering teams regarding seismic design requirements.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation for regulatory submissions and licensing activities.
- Interface with regulators, consultants, engineering contractors, and stakeholders on seismic-related matters.
- Review seismic monitoring programs and recommend risk mitigation measures.
- Participate in project risk assessments and contribute to nuclear safety case development.
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geophysics, Seismology, Earth Sciences, or related discipline.
- Professional registration or chartered status is desirable.
- 5 years of experience in seismology, seismic hazard assessment, or earthquake engineering.
- To meet project donor requirements, specialist will be of Thai nationality
