Description

Senior Accountant

Numbers should give people confidence, not a second job. This firm helps businesses, nonprofits, and professional practices see their finances clearly, plan taxes with intent, and make decisions without the jargon. As Senior Accountant, you own the work behind that promise: clean books, defensible tax files, and guidance clients can actually use.

Performance Objectives

  • Close monthly books for your client portfolio on the agreed calendar, with reconciliations that pass review the first time.
  • Deliver financial packages leaders use—cash position, meaningful variances, and the few metrics that change a decision.
  • Prepare and review business, nonprofit, and individual tax workpapers so returns are accurate, documented, and filed on time.
  • Catch payroll, entity, and cash issues early and bring a recommended next step, not only a problem flag.
  • Coach staff accountants so review notes shrink and first-pass quality improves each quarter.
  • Keep clients informed in plain language: status, risks, and exactly what you need from them.

Environment & Resources

You work inside a collaborative accounting, tax, payroll, and advisory practice that provides outsourced bookkeeping, controllership, and CFO-level support. Cloud accounting tools, a defined review process, and partners who stay close to the work are standard. You report to a manager or partner and set close calendars and staff priorities within your book of business.

Essential Qualifications

  • Several years in public or industry accounting with hands-on month-end closes and financial statement preparation.
  • Enough business and nonprofit tax depth to prepare and review returns with limited rework.
  • Fluency in cloud accounting systems and the habit of documenting work so others can continue it.
  • A record of holding multiple deadlines without letting accuracy slip.
  • Clear writing and the patience to explain numbers to people who are not accountants.
  • CPA, or active progress toward it, preferred; equivalent accounting and tax depth will be considered.

Role Selling Points

  • A mix of accounting, tax, payroll, and advisory—not one repetitive task all year.
  • A low-jargon culture that treats clarity as the product, not a courtesy.
  • A path toward controller, tax, or advisory work as client needs grow.
  • A nationwide client base, including nonprofits and professional services, inside a close team.
