Position Summary
Valley Precision Grading is seeking a Senior Accountant with hands-on construction project accounting and cost accounting experience to maintain accurate financial records and support a timely month-end close. Working closely
with the Controller and Project Accountants, this individual will independently manage recurring journal entries, general ledger reconciliations and reporting schedules, with a key focus on preparing work-in-progress (WIP) reports from

The ideal candidate is organized, dependable and comfortable working independently while collaborating with an

Key Responsibilities
General Accounting & Month-End Close
• Own and maintain recurring month-end journal entries, accruals and assigned close schedules; ensure transactions are recorded in the correct period.
• Prepare and reconcile assigned general ledger, bank, credit card and balance sheet accounts; research and resolve discrepancies.
• Support monthly financial reporting, management schedules, variance analysis and year-end close activities.
Construction Accounting & WIP Reporting
• Prepare accurate WIP schedules using system and job-cost data; flag unusual items and provide clear supporting detail for Controller review and adjustment discussions.
• Perform construction cost accounting and job cost analysis, including review of project expenses, labor and other cost allocations, and investigation of budget-to-actual variances.
• Coordinate with Project Accountants on project setup, job-cost coding, project-related reconciliations, billing support, contract documentation and closeout activities.
Accounting Support, Controls & Audit
• Provide support for accounts payable, payroll accounting, labor distribution, fixed assets and related reconciliations as assigned.
• Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations and documentation for annual financial statement audits and other reporting requests.
• Maintain strong internal controls and organized accounting records; recommend practical process improvements and support future system changes.
• Collaborate with Finance and project teams to meet deadlines and resolve accounting issues; perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including journal entries, reconciliations, general ledger work and month-end close.
• Hands-on construction project accounting experience, including job cost accounting, cost allocation, analysis of project costs and preparation of WIP schedules.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting fundamentals.
• Intermediate or better Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and PivotTables.

• Experience with payroll and fixed asset accounting; CPA designation or active candidacy.

The preferred work locations are Austin, TX; Henderson, NV; or San Diego, CA. Other locations or remote arrangements are subject to leadership approval. Occasional travel may be required for initial training, team meetings and audit activities, including some trips of approximately three days. The work is primarily computer-based in an office or other approved work setting.
Work Authorization
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
