Senior Agriculture Specialist

Description

You will direct research and experiments to identify land use problems, suitable plant varieties, techniques for nursery operations, and best methods for planting, spraying, cultivating, harvesting, storing, processing, or transporting agricultural and horticultural products, as well as pest and weed management.

You will provide guidance on planning and developing community projects, develop programs that will achieve quality landscaping designs, effective implementation, and possible cost reduction.

You will provide guidance on programs for training staff personnel on the latest agricultural and horticultural technology or methodologies, including plant insect and pest control.

You will study soil characteristics and develop improved measurement techniques, soil conservation methods, soil sampling devices, or other necessary technologies.

You will also design work programs for implementation by the gardening, landscaping, and nursery personnel. You will review and advise staff in the performance of their duties and prepare periodic reports for supervisory review regarding work performance.

You will coordinate and implement integrated pest management programs to control horticultural and agricultural pests in all landscaped areas, including residences. You will advise and instruct on plant pest control, conduct surveys, collect samples, and study plant pests and materials to improve control efforts.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or equivalent from a recognized and approved program.

Ten years of experience in gardening, landscaping, agriculture, or equivalent, including at least eight years in horticulture, gardening, plantations, or equivalent.
