Senior AI Back-end Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior AI Backend Engineer based in Brazil.

This is a high-impact opportunity to contribute to the development of an AI-powered research and analysis platform.
You will combine strong backend engineering expertise with deep knowledge of LLMs and agentic systems.
The role involves designing scalable backend solutions, integrating AI capabilities, and building reliable data workflows.
You will work closely with a small, cross-functional team spanning backend, frontend, full-stack, and DevOps.
The position is highly client-facing, offering the opportunity to translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
You will have significant ownership over technical delivery and architectural decisions with minimal oversight.
As the platform and team mature, there is strong potential to grow into a technical leadership position.

• Maintain and extend backend systems for an AI-powered research and analysis platform built with Python.
• Build and optimize data ingestion pipelines that bring information from external sources, including reviews and data warehouses, into the application layer.
• Integrate LLMs and agentic capabilities into existing backend workflows and develop multi-step AI solutions where appropriate.
• Translate client research workflows and stakeholder requirements into scalable, reliable backend solutions.
• Contribute to architectural decisions across backend, data, and AI layers.
• Collaborate closely with frontend, DevOps, and full-stack engineers to deliver features end-to-end.
• Ensure backend services meet high standards for reliability, performance, scalability, and data integrity.
• Take end-to-end ownership of backend technical delivery while managing priorities based on feasibility, ROI, and project readiness.
• Work directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders to understand needs, communicate solutions, and support successful delivery.
• Contribute to the evolution of the AI services practice and take on greater ownership as the project develops.

Requirements:

• You have approximately 8+ years of professional experience in backend engineering with strong, lead-level expertise in Python.
• You have proven experience translating business processes and stakeholder needs into technical requirements, solution designs, or scalable software implementations.
• You have experience working in consulting, client-facing delivery, or similarly stakeholder-intensive environments.
• You have demonstrated ownership of technical roadmaps and the ability to prioritize competing initiatives according to feasibility, ROI, and readiness.
• You have strong knowledge of LLMs, generative AI, and agentic systems, including the ability to evaluate different models and frameworks and determine when and how AI capabilities should be incorporated into production workflows.
• You have experience working in structured, production-grade engineering environments with strong standards for reliability and delivery.
• You are comfortable making architectural decisions and taking end-to-end ownership with minimal oversight.
• You have strong stakeholder-management and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical teams and non-technical business leaders.
• You are fluent in English at a native or near-native level.
• Experience with data engineering, data ingestion pipelines, data warehousing, or other data-intensive work at scale is highly desirable.
• Experience working with financial services or investment-related products and environments is a plus.
• You have the ambition and ability to grow into a technical lead role as responsibilities expand.
