Senior AI Engineer

e're seeking an experienced AI Engineer to design, build and deploy secure enterprise AI solutions within a large Federal Government environment. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge Generative AI initiatives that will shape how AI is adopted across a major organisation.

You'll work alongside architects, cyber security specialists, data teams and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, governed AI solutions using the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.

What you'll be doing

• Design and develop enterprise AI solutions using Azure AI services and Microsoft technologies.
• Build AI agents, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions and intelligent business applications.
• Develop APIs, integrations and microservices connecting AI capabilities with enterprise systems.
• Implement vector search, document intelligence and data ingestion pipelines.
• Conduct AI testing, evaluation and assurance including hallucination, bias and prompt injection testing.
• Apply responsible AI, security, privacy and governance controls across AI solutions.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to identify AI opportunities that improve productivity and business outcomes.
• Produce technical documentation and support knowledge transfer across internal teams.

Skills & Experience

• Commercial experience delivering enterprise AI solutions using Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI and Copilot Studio.
• Strong experience building AI Agents, RAG solutions and enterprise AI applications.
• Python development experience with API frameworks such as FastAPI (or similar).
• Experience integrating AI solutions with APIs, databases and enterprise applications.
• Knowledge of vector search, document intelligence and AI orchestration frameworks.
• Understanding of AI governance, responsible AI, security and privacy within regulated environments.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Desirable

• Microsoft Agent Framework, LangChain or similar agent frameworks.
• .NET, Node.js or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience working in Australian Government or other highly regulated environments.
