Senior AI Engineer
Summary
Hands-on senior role in Perth building a large organisation's unified conversational AI assistant platform — designing core capabilities like the routing 'front door', RAG pipelines, LLM orchestration, agent registry, inference/serving, and governance, while setting engineering standards, documenting architecture, and mentoring delivery teams.
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior AI Engineer to help build and scale a large organisation’s unified AI assistant platform. It is a conversational AI product that supports a handful of use cases today, and it is growing into the single entry point for AI-driven interactions across the business.
This is a hands-on engineering role. You’ll design, build and ship core platform capabilities, shape engineering standards, and help work through the technical trade-offs as the platform grows into a multi-layer AI ecosystem covering governance, data, models, orchestration and user experience.
You’ll work closely with delivery teams, enterprise architecture and business stakeholders to deliver near-term priority use cases while building toward the long-term target state.
Key responsibilities
Design, build and maintain core components of the AI assistant platform, including the “front door” experience that routes users to the right capabilities and agents.
Engineer across the control plane and runtime layer, including agent registry, evaluations, observability, orchestration, inference and memory.
Build and integrate the data and model foundations that power the platform, including retrieval pipelines, model selection and serving, and prompt and context management.
Implement governance, identity and access controls that apply consistently to every agent, including line-of-business agents.
Contribute to the technical roadmap by estimating effort, identifying dependencies and advising on how capabilities should be sequenced across delivery stages.
Help define and apply engineering standards and best practices for building, testing, deploying and monitoring AI agents and LLM-based services.
Provide technical guidance and code review for delivery teams building on the platform, and mentor other engineers.
Write and maintain clear technical documentation, including design docs, architecture decision records, integration guides and runbooks.
Take on other technical work related to the platform as needed.
About you
Senior-level experience building production AI, LLM or conversational AI systems, ideally at enterprise scale.
Strong hands-on skills across the AI stack, such as RAG and data pipelines, LLM orchestration and agent frameworks, inference and model serving, memory and state management, and evaluation and observability tooling.
Solid software engineering fundamentals: API design, distributed systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP), CI/CD and testing.
Experience breaking down complex platform goals into well-scoped, deliverable increments.
Confidence working with multiple teams and stakeholders, and making sound technical calls within your area of ownership.
Strong documentation habits: you write design docs, standards and decision records that other engineers can follow.
Highly regarded: experience with AI governance, responsible AI frameworks, or identity and access patterns for agentic systems.
