Role Type: Full-time
Engagement: Based in Johannesburg/ Rosebank
Job Summary
We are seeking a high-calibre, strategically-minded Chief of Staff to serve as the primary right-hand to a CEO overseeing a diverse multi-sector portfolio. This is not a traditional administrative role; it is a position for a commercial strategist and executive proxy who can manage complex information flows across FMCG, Technology, Agriculture, and Real Estate. You will be the "connective tissue" of the organization, ensuring that the CEO’s vision is translated into action, critical priorities are executed with precision, and global operations run seamlessly. For a self-motivated professional with high commercial acumen, this role serves as a high-visibility stepping stone toward future business unit leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Executive Strategy & Proxy: Act as a confidential counselor and proxy in high-level meetings, making secondary decisions and ensuring the execution of executive directives across global jurisdictions.
- Communication & Information Architecture: Manage the CEO’s correspondence, filtering noise to surface urgent matters, and ensuring the CEO is fully briefed with context, bios, and agendas before every engagement.
- Operational Oversight: Maintain deal trackers and project logs, ensuring all status updates across portfolio companies are accurate and actionable.
- Workflow Optimization: Partner with the Personal Assistant to optimize the CEO’s schedule and travel, ensuring time is allocated to the highest-leverage business objectives.
- Business Advisory: Review deal memos, investment proposals, and financial reports to provide objective sanity checks and commercial feedback.
- Special Projects & Liaison: Act as a resource for operating businesses to fix broken processes, develop new workflows, and manage high-priority crisis interventions.
- Document Control: Produce professional-standard investment memos, presentations, and minutes, ensuring all follow-up actions are tracked to completion.
Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years in a high-performance environment such as Private Equity, Management Consulting, Business Operations, or Law.
- Commercial Acumen: Advanced financial literacy with the ability to analyze financial statements and interface confidently with private bankers and tax lawyers.
- Location & Availability: Based in Johannesburg (WeWork Rosebank / Remote hybrid) with the flexibility to travel internationally and remain responsive to global deal flows outside of standard 9-5 hours.
- Discretion: Absolute commitment to confidentiality while handling sensitive financial and personal information.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced expertise in Microsoft Office and AI productivity tools.
- Mindset: A service-oriented, low-ego approach combined with the ambition to eventually lead a business unit.
- Education: A relevant university degree or professional diploma in Business, Finance, or Law.
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience working within a private Family Office environment.
- Background in managing diversified portfolios across emerging markets.
- Experience in crisis management or international operational logistics.
