Collins Aerospace is hiring a Procurement professional to lead the management and mitigation of component obsolescence risks across the supply base. This role drives proactive procurement strategies that ensure continuity of supply for production and aftermarket needs while balancing cost, quality, delivery, and long-term business objectives, The Obsolescence Buyer partners closely with Engineering, Program Management, Operations, Procurement, and suppliers to identify at-risk components early, develop mitigation plans, and execute effective sourcing strategies. Responsibilities include managing last-time buys, alternate sourcing, supplier negotiations, RFPs, cost analysis, purchase orders, and delivery assurance. This role is a hybrid position (typically working 2-4 days onsite per week) in Cedar Rapids, IA. This role is NOT eligible for relocation.

What You Will Do

  • Lead end-to-end obsolescence procurement activities, including risk identification, mitigation planning, sourcing, negotiations, and purchase order execution.
  • Monitor and analyze supplier notifications, component lifecycle data, and market trends to identify potential obsolescence risks.
  • Lead proactive mitigation strategies such as last‑time buy evaluation, alternate part qualification, resourcing, or redesign coordination.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to validate replacement part options or coordinate obsolescence-driven engineering changes.
  • Maintain an obsolescence tracking system to document risks, recommended actions, timelines, and financial impacts.
  • Coordinate last‑time buy orders, ensuring proper quantity planning for program life, aftermarket requirements, and customer commitments.
  • Manage supplier communication related to end‑of‑life notices, product change notifications, and roadmap planning.
  • Work with Procurement and Program teams to assess cost, lead time, and inventory implications of obsolescence decisions.
  • Support supply chain continuity by identifying strategic secondary sources or negotiating extended availability where possible.
  • Provide regular reports and status updates to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, export regulations, and supplier management requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the supply chain lifecycle management process.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Previous procurement experience

  • SAP experience strongly preferred

  • Degree in Supply Chain management preferred, but not required

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
