Senior Android/AOSP Platform Engineer

F5 Global Talent is hiring a Senior Android/AOSP Platform Engineer with experience on both sides of Android: native application development and system-level AOSP/ROM engineering.

You’ll build native Android applications in Kotlin and Java while also working directly with AOSP source code, Android frameworks, ROM builds, privileged system apps, SELinux policies, platform signing, HALs, and real-device debugging.

This is not a standard mobile-app development role. We need someone who understands Android from the application layer down through the framework and device platform.

This is a full-time, remote role open to candidates in India and the Philippines.

IMPORTANT

You must have contributed to at least one shipped Android ROM, OEM firmware, or enterprise Android device project.

Experience limited to standard Play Store Android app development is not sufficient.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Build native Android applications in Kotlin and Java

• Develop UI using Jetpack Compose and XML

• Work with Coroutines, Flow, Retrofit, OkHttp, and modern Android architecture

• Build and customize Android ROMs from AOSP source using Repo, Soong, and Make

• Modify Android framework components and system configurations

• Develop privileged and system applications

• Manage platform signing, system permissions, and SELinux policies

• Work with system partitions, HALs, and Android initialization scripts

• Integrate Bluetooth, audio routing, hardware buttons, and device-level functionality

• Debug issues across the app, framework, and hardware layers

• Investigate ANRs, crashes, tombstones, native issues, and performance problems

• Test and troubleshoot directly on physical devices

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• 5+ years of professional Android development experience

• Hands-on experience with both native Android application development and AOSP/ROM engineering

• Experience contributing to a shipped ROM, OEM firmware, or enterprise Android device

• Strong Kotlin and Java skills

• C/C++ and Bash/Shell scripting experience

• AOSP source-code experience

• Android ROM build experience using Repo, Soong, and Make

• Android framework and system-app development experience

• SELinux policy and system-permission experience

• Platform signing experience

• HAL and system-level Android knowledge

• Jetpack Compose, MVVM, Coroutines, Flow, and Room

• ADB, Logcat, ANR and crash analysis

• Real-device debugging experience

• Strong root-cause troubleshooting skills

• MediaTek BSP experience

• Qualcomm BSP experience

• AIDL / HIDL

• Android.bp / Makefile experience

• Python

• Android media, camera, and audio APIs

• Push-to-Talk device experience

• Hardware-button integration

• Firebase or GCP experience
