Summary
Waracle, a digital technology consultancy, is hiring a Senior Android Developer in London (hybrid, 2 days/week in office or client site) to design, build, and deliver high-performance Android features end to end, mentor juniors, and present to clients. Core stack is Kotlin/Java with Android SDK, Jetpack Compose, and MVVM/MVI, plus openness to Flutter or React Native.
Waracle are looking for a Senior Developer for an exciting new role joining our world-class digital technology consultancy and home to a diverse, smart, curious and ambitious community of specialists in technology-driven transformation.
We work with ambitious clients to help them solve their biggest business and customer challenges. We help our clients to innovate and create intelligent digital products and services. We thrive on complex challenges and deliver business-critical IT transformation projects, moving seamlessly from strategy, design and delivery to operations.
This is a Hybrid role, offering the flexibility to balance your professional and personal life, with 2 days a week spent connecting with colleagues in our London office or on client site
The Role
We are looking for a self- motivated Senior Developer, proficient in Android mobile development. In this position, you will drive the end-to-end craft of building, developing, and deploying high-performance Android components and services.
Whilst Android will be your core area of expertise, we’re looking for someone with a curiosity and willingness to work across the wider mobile ecosystem. Experience with, or an openness to working with, frameworks such as React Native and Flutter would be highly valued.
You don’t need to be an expert in every framework - we’re interested in developers who have strong engineering fundamentals, can adapt to different technologies and enjoy learning new approaches to solving mobile challenges!
Key aspects of the role include:
Technical Excellence & Delivery: Designing and delivering end-to-end features and small subsystems; optimising app performance, accessibility, and responsiveness; and being accountable for successful delivery of features.
Communication & Stakeholder Management: Explaining technical trade-offs in plain language; and presenting demos confidently to clients and stakeholders to shape tactical direction.
Leadership & Team Collaboration: Leading delivery of specific features or workstreams; and mentoring junior colleagues in both craft and process.
Culture & Community of Practice: Regularly mentoring others across the practice; and representing Waracle in interviews and recruitment panels.
Participating in ad-hoc duties from time to time as required by management.
What you'll bring:
Core Language & Framework Expertise: Exceptional proficiency in Kotlin and Java, backed by a deep understanding of the Android SDK, core threading, offline storage, and performance tuning.
Modern UI & Design Mastery: Hands-on experience building dynamic, responsive user interfaces with Jetpack Compose, coupled with a firm command of Google’s Android Design Principles and interface guidelines.
Architecture & Clean Code: Strong practical application of SOLID principles, working comfortably within a modularised codebase, and architecting robust solutions using MVVM/MVI alongside Android Architecture Components and Jetpack libraries.
Ecosystem & Optimisation: Broad knowledge of the open-source Android landscape—leveraging top-tier third-party libraries for common tasks, benchmarking, and fine-grained optimisation.
Quality & Engineering Practices: Proven track record in writing reliable UI tests, maintaining clean software development lifecycles, and working fluently with modern code versioning workflows like Git.
Cross-Platform Knowledge: Direct experience or familiar exposure with cross-platform mobile frameworks such as Flutter or React Native.
