Fixed-term contract (Nov 2026 – Jan 2027) via consultancy emagine for a bank: a senior architect defines and leads domain-owned data products and an API-first architecture — setting standards, governance, integration patterns and architectural guardrails while guiding delivery teams. Based in Stockholm or Helsinki, on-site 2–3 days a week.

About the role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Architect to help shape the future of banking technology. You will lead the architecture of domain-oriented data products and APIs that enable critical business capabilities across the bank.
Working at the intersection of business, technology and data, you will partner with architects, engineers, product managers and senior stakeholders to create scalable, secure and resilient solutions. You will provide end-to-end architectural leadership across multiple delivery streams, while enabling teams to make effective decisions within clear architectural guardrails.

What you'll be doing
Lead architecture across domains
• Define and evolve the architecture vision, principles and roadmap for Data Products and Domain APIs.
• Align business capabilities, data assets, APIs and technology platforms across multiple delivery streams.
• Oversee the end-to-end solution architecture and coordinate the work of software architects embedded in individual delivery streams.
• Identify interfaces, data flows and cross-domain dependencies, and guide teams in evaluating solution alternatives.
Drive data product excellence
• Establish patterns and standards for domain-owned data products that are discoverable, trustworthy, reusable and governed.
• Clarify data ownership, product boundaries, quality expectations, metadata, lineage and lifecycle responsibilities.
• Partner with business and technology stakeholders to maximise the value and safe use of data across the organisation.
• Promote modern data architecture practices, including data product thinking and domain ownership.
Shape the domain API landscape
• Define API-first architecture principles, design standards, governance and lifecycle management practices.
• Guide the definition of domain boundaries, API contracts, versioning, security and reusable integration patterns.
• Ensure APIs are secure, scalable, resilient, observable and easy for consumers to use.
• Support event-driven and service-oriented integration approaches where they provide clear business and technology value.
Build resilient, delivery-ready solutions
• Define solution-level functional requirements and non-functional requirements for availability, performance, security, scalability, resilience and operability.
• Define subsystems and interfaces, allocate responsibilities and clarify interactions with the wider solution context.
• Build and maintain the architectural runway needed for sustainable delivery and future change.
• Enable Continuous Delivery and DevOps through pragmatic design guidelines, automation and investment advocacy.
Collaborate and influence
• Work closely with Product and Solution Management, business stakeholders, engineering teams, Enterprise Architects and external suppliers.
• Contribute architectural expertise to planning, high-level design, solution demonstrations and continuous exploration.
• Help shape and realise architectural enablers, including appropriate capacity allocation for enablement work.
• Communicate complex architecture decisions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Mentor architects and engineering teams, foster collaboration and enable decentralised decision-making.
Must-have knowledge and experience
Experience and domain knowledge
Significant experience in Solution Architecture, Domain Architecture, Enterprise Architecture or a comparable senior architecture role.
A proven track record of designing and delivering enterprise-scale data, API and integration solutions.
Experience leading architecture across multiple teams, products or technology domains.
A strong understanding of banking technology and business processes. Experience with Core Banking platforms is highly desirable.
Experience working in complex, regulated environments with demanding security, resilience and data governance requirements.
