Hong Kong Interbank Clearing Limited (hereinafter referred to as “the Company”) is a private organization jointly owned by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and The Hong Kong Association of Banks. The Company’s key objective is to develop and operate a safe and efficient multi-currency and multi-dimensional financial infrastructure in Hong Kong for:

• large-value interbank fund transfers denominated in HKD, USD, Euro and RMB;

• interbank money settlement of equity and debt securities transactions in Hong Kong via the linkages with the Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Limited and the HKMA’s Central Moneymarkets Unit (CMU) system;

• small-value interbank fund transfers denominated in HKD and RMB via the HKD and RMB Faster Payment System; and

• interbank clearing and/or money settlement of paper cheques and various types of electronic payments in Hong Kong.

The Company is also the operator of the HKMA’s CMU system.

Apart from interbank clearing-and-settlement services, the Company and its subsidiaries also support the HKMA and the financial industry to foster the development of the financial technology (“FinTech”) ecosystem in Hong Kong.

We are looking for a suitable candidate to take up the following job position.

Senior Architect (Solution Development)

Major Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end FinTech solution and application architecture design, establishing strategic blueprints, standards, and governance processes

• Design resilient and scalable distributed systems utilizing microservice architecture, API gateways, asynchronous event-streaming, and straight-through processing (STP)

• Architect seamless cross-system and external financial institution integrations, enforcing robust end-to-end cryptography, data protection, and high-throughput messaging standards

• Advise on modern FinTech technologies (DLT, IaC, Cloud-native, AI) and review delivery team/vendor designs to ensure regulatory compliance (ISO 27001, C-RAF, HKMA) and prevent technical debt

• Drive continuous system reliability, observability, and deployment automation by incorporating Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles into the solution lifecycle

• Collaborate closely with development, infrastructure, cybersecurity, risk management, and external stakeholders to translate business requirements into resilient technical solutions

Requirements

• University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or related disciplines

• Minimum 10 years’ relevant experience in software engineering and IT solution delivery (preferably in major financial institutions), with at least 4 years in a solution or application architect role

• Proven expertise in high-availability distributed systems, microservices architecture, API design and management, straight-thought and asynchronous event-streaming processing, and cryptography

• Hands-on experience with application development, containerization and relational / NoSQL databases

• Familiarity with Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) solutions (e.g., Hyperledger Fabric) and blockchain application architecture, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices are appreciated and a definite advantage

• Strong analytical, structured problem-solving, and presentation skills, with a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Putonghua preferred). TOGAF or enterprise architecture certification is an advantage

• Candidates with less experience may be considered for the Architect position
