Senior Automation Engineer (DevOps-Focused)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Automation Engineer (DevOps-Focused) to join a collaborative team delivering automation and integration solutions across diverse client environments. This role is focused on maintaining, optimising, and enhancing existing automation solutions while designing new workflows where required. You will take ownership of automation reliability, performance, security, and continuous improvement, working closely with technical leads and stakeholders to deliver scalable, production-ready solutions.

Ideal Profile

Automation & DevOps

• Proven mid-to-senior level experience in Automation Engineering, Systems Integration, or DevOps Engineering.
• Hands-on experience maintaining, supporting, and optimising production automation solutions rather than solely delivering greenfield implementations.
• Strong experience with Workato (preferred) or deep expertise with n8n.
• Practical experience with source control, CI/CD pipelines, cloud environments, configuration management, release management, monitoring, and incident response.
• Experience implementing production-ready logging, alerting, retry logic, auditability, and operational support documentation.

Integration & Cloud Technologies

• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills across APIs, middleware, authentication, webhooks, queues, and data flows.
• Experience integrating SaaS platforms through APIs and middleware.
• Experience with Azure and/or AWS cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with platforms such as Vercel and Supabase is advantageous.
• Exposure to React or React Native environments is beneficial.

Tools & Industry Experience

• Experience using Jira, Atlassian Suite, or similar Agile/Kanban tools.
• Experience supporting eCommerce or logistics-focused environments is highly desirable.
• Exposure to Shopify and/or BigCommerce is advantageous.
• Relevant Workato, DevOps, cloud, automation, or integration certifications are highly regarded.

Responsibilities

Automation Operations & Optimisation

• Own the ongoing maintenance, health, performance, and reliability of automation solutions, integrations, and supporting services.
• Monitor production environments, investigate incidents, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions to prevent recurring issues.
• Analyse and optimise existing workflows to improve scalability, maintainability, security, resilience, and operational efficiency.
• Enhance observability through logging, monitoring, dashboards, alerting, and operational health checks.

Automation Development & DevOps

• Design and develop new automation workflows and system integrations using reusable, scalable patterns.
• Apply DevOps best practices across source control, CI/CD, configuration management, release planning, and rollback strategies.
• Manage assigned automation workstreams through requirements gathering, development, testing, deployment, documentation, and operational handover.
• Develop reusable automation components, integration patterns, and internal playbooks to improve delivery consistency.

Documentation & Governance

• Produce workflow diagrams, runbooks, SOPs, operational guides, and handover documentation suitable for production support.
• Maintain accurate documentation throughout the automation lifecycle to support knowledge sharing and operational excellence.
• Manage incidents, enhancements, defects, and technical debt using Agile/Kanban tools such as Jira.

Collaboration & Client Delivery

• Work closely with technical leads, internal teams, and stakeholders to deliver automation and integration solutions.
• Provide regular written delivery updates and communicate project progress effectively through asynchronous channels.
• Support medium-to-enterprise client engagements involving automation, system modernisation, lift-and-shift initiatives, and integration-focused projects.
