Senior AWS Cloud Engineer

BlueSky’s AWS Business Unit is seeking a driven and skilled Senior AWS Cloud Engineer with deep expertise in building scalable, secure, and automated cloud infrastructure. You will play a critical role in architecting and implementing CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure-as-Code, container orchestration, and cloud-native deployment strategies for enterprise clients.

A strong track record in Amazon Connect implementation, Solution Architectures and experience working in Financial Services is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines for complex, scalable AWS-hosted environments.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code using tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, and Ansible.
  • Implement and manage Amazon Connect solutions for contact centre transformation.
  • Deploy and orchestrate containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot deployment issues, and optimize infrastructure across dev, test, and production environments.
  • Collaborate with architects, developers, testers, and business analysts across agile delivery teams.
  • Implement DevSecOps best practices including security scanning, secrets management, and compliance automation.
  • Guide and mentor junior team members and contribute to continuous learning culture.
  • Participate in incident management, root cause analysis, and performance tuning activities.
  • Contribute to and lead aspects of solution architecture, ensuring alignment with client requirements, best practices, and AWS Well-Architected Framework.
  • Ensure platform reliability, scalability, and observability using AWS-native tools (e.g., CloudWatch, X-Ray, GuardDuty).

Essential Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Cloud Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering, with at least 3 years focused on AWS.
  • Hands-on expertise with Amazon Connect deployment, configuration, and integration.
  • Solid scripting skills using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Expertise with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, AWS CodePipeline, or Bamboo.
  • Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure (VPCs, IAM, EC2, ECS/EKS, Lambda, RDS, Route 53, CloudFront, etc.).
  • Proficiency with version control (Git) and Agile DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Chef, Puppet, Ansible).
  • Knowledge of security and compliance frameworks relevant to FSI, Retail, and Telco sectors (e.g., PCI DSS, POPIA, GDPR).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Engineering.
  • AWS Certifications highly preferred:
    • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional
    • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate or Professional
    • AWS AI / Machine Learning - Specialty
    • AWS Certified Advanced Networking / Security / SysOps
  • Familiarity with customer engagement and workforce management technologies.
  • Exposure to other public clouds (Azure, GCP) beneficial.
