About the role:

The Senior Cloud and Automation Engineer will play a key role in uplifting the council's capability in the secure and efficient consumption of Cloud Services. This role will be a senior technical resource leading the uplift of current deployments and future ways of leveraging Cloud and Automation.

This role will be key in delivering foundational services, transforming and managing workloads in cloud and driving an automation first mindset. The role will work with the Hosting Modernisation Program to define and implement capabilities that will fundamentally uplift the way services are deployed and managed into the future. The role will bring thought leadership as well as hands on capability in delivering new platforms.

The role requires an experienced Cloud Engineer who is comfortable helping contribute to future direction, implement new capabilities, identifying and remediating existing BAU deployments as needed and bringing the broader team on the journey to help upskill existing technical staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Working closely with Architecture and 3rd party Solution Providers to guide relevant Solution Designs
  • Technology evaluation and proposals relating to Cloud and Automation technologies
  • Developing Detailed Designs relating to Cloud and Automation Capabilities
  • Leading the implementation of a broad range of solutions with an automation first mindset
  • Guide and mentor other technical staff in new solutions and ways of working
  • Provide technical thought leadership to the Technology Leadership team
  • Support the Program Manager as the senior technical advisor in the relevant domains
  • Works closely with CoM Architecture and Cybersecurity to ensure that all Cloud solutions align to CoM Cyber standards and controls.
  • Tactical remediation of existing Cloud deployments while future capabilities are built
  • Ensures all Cloud and Automation solutions align with architecture principles, guardrails and design standards.
Key Requirements:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or related discipline
  • AWS Certifications or equivalent experience
  • 7+ years’ experience in engineering and managing complex Cloud deployments
  • Strong program delivery experience as a senior technical implementer
  • Strong technical expertise across Cloud, Automation Solutions, Security, Infrastructure and Networks, including:
    • o AWS preferred and/or Azure (IaaS, PaaS, Serverless, Containers)
    • o Orchestration and Automation platforms (e.g. Terraform, Ansible, CloudFormation)
    • o DevSecOps, IaC and CI/CD tools (e.g. BitBucket, ArgoCD)
    • o Microsoft Platforms and Ecosystem
    • o Knowledge of networking concepts (e.g. VPN, DNS, load balancing) and security best practices in Cloud environments
  • Experience working with cybersecurity standards and practices necessary to monitor and maintain highly secure and resilient Cloud environments.
