Job Description
This Senior AWS Data Engineer will own the design and delivery of scalable data products that power analytics, optimisation and operational decisioning during a 12-month fixed-term engagement. The role requires building robust ETL/ELT pipelines, defining data models and implementing automated quality and SLA controls to ensure timely, reliable datasets for cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and implement end-to-end data pipelines on AWS to ingest, process and store operational datasets.
- Develop and maintain data models, schemas and documentation to support analytics and machine learning use cases.
- Implement data quality frameworks, validation checks and monitoring to meet SLAs.
- Design metadata, lineage and data contract solutions to support governance and discoverability.
- Collaborate with product owners, analysts and engineers to translate requirements into data products.
- Optimise pipeline performance and cost across AWS services.
- Review and mentor engineers on best practices for data engineering and cloud operations.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support production data workflows.
Requirements
- Significant hands-on experience building data pipelines using AWS technologies (e.g., Glue, Lambda, EMR, Redshift, S3, Athena).
- Proven track record designing data models for analytics and ML applications.
- Strong knowledge of data quality, observability and governance patterns.
- Proficiency with SQL, Python and infrastructure-as-code tools (CloudFormation, Terraform or similar).
- Experience with streaming and batch processing frameworks (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis, Spark).
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment and influence stakeholders across functions.
- Excellent communication skills with a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset.
