Senior AWS Operations Engineer
JOB DESCRIPTION
• Manage Linux and/or Windows servers across AWS (EC2, ECS/EKS nodes, hybrid
environments).
• Perform OS-level configuration, hardening, troubleshooting, and optimization.
• Handle OS lifecycle tasks including provisioning, upgrading, and decommissioning.
• Maintain AMIs, golden images, or OS baselines for consistent deployments.
• Manage OS patching using AWS Systems Manager (SSM Patch Manager), Automation
Runbooks, or third-party tools.
• Schedule, test, and deploy patches to minimize downtime and ensure compliance.
• Remediate vulnerabilities identified by security scans (Inspector, Tenable, Qualys,
etc.).
• Maintain compliance with internal security baselines and regulatory frameworks.
• Manage AWS backup and perform daily backup and restoration on required basis.
• Monitor system health, performance, and capacity using CloudWatch, CloudTrail,
SSM, and other tools.
• Troubleshoot EC2-level issues involving CPU/memory utilization, disk/IO, networking,
and OS processes.
• Manage EBS volumes, snapshots, filesystem integrity, userdata scripts, and boot-level
issues.
• Support routine operational tasks for multi-account AWS environments
• Collaborate with DevOps, cloud engineering, and security teams for system
improvements.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive measures.
• Handle log management at OS level (CloudWatch Agent / SSM Agent / OS syslogs).
• Knowledge in ticketing tools like ServiceNow and Jira.
OPERATIONS-SPECIFIC DUTIES
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills in Windows, Linux, AWS.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Good documentation habits and communication skills.
• Attention to detail and a proactive operational mindset.
• Monitor system performance and identify downtimes along with underlying causes
SKILLS
• Require 7-12 years of technology experience.
• At least 5-7 years of experience in AWS Cloud Operations with large multinational
organisations.
• Strong hands-on experience with AWS services (EC2, SSM, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch).
• Expertise in OS patching, configuration management, and hardening.
• Familiarity with scripting (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
• Experience troubleshooting system performance, networking, and logs.
• Strong understanding of cloud operations and ITIL/operational best practices.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell
• AWS certifications (e.g., AWS SysOps Administrator – Associate) are highly desirable
• Having a Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certification or Red Hat
Certified System Administrator is beneficial.
