Senior Backend Developer

Senior Backend Developer – 100% Remote

We’re looking for a backend developer who loves building and improving APIs, integrations and CMS. You’ll own the backend side of products.
You’ll work directly with our Head of Engineering and have real influence over technical decisions, bringing opinions.

What you’ll be doing
Modernise and refactor existing APIs: improve structure, performance, security and documentation
Design and build new endpoints and services, with versioning and backward compatibility in mind
Work with MySQL on AWS RDS: schema design, query optimisation, migrations
Operate and improve our AWS stack: Elastic Beanstalk, ElastiCache (Redis), S3
Improve our CI/CD pipelines, automated tests and deployment practices
Help the frontend team (Angular / Node.js) when needed

What we’re looking for
5+ years of backend development experience
Strong PHP skills and CodeIgniter or another MVC framework (Laravel, Symfony…)
Solid REST API design: versioning, authentication, error handling, documentation
Experience refactoring legacy code safely, with automated tests (PHPUnit or similar)
Strong MySQL skills, including performance tuning
Hands-on AWS experience: RDS, Elastic Beanstalk, ElastiCache/Redis
Docker and Linux (shell scripting, process management, permissions)
CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or similar)
You care about code quality, take ownership and communicate clearly

Nice to have
AWS Lambda, SQS or event-driven architectures
Angular, Node.js, CSS/SCSS
Experience with authentication services (e.g. Amazon Cognito)
