Senior Backend Developer - Defence HQ Platform team

Summary

Build and maintain the scalable backend platform for defence software, using Java, Kubernetes, and Linux to ensure reliability under constrained network conditions.

Senior Backend developer - Platform team

Our SitaWare products help Defence organizations operate confidently in complex, high-stakes environments, often over networks with low bandwidth and high latency. As a Senior Backend Developer on our Platform team, you'll design and build the foundation that makes this possible: a scalable platform used by admins and users across our entire product suite.

The job

You’ll work at the intersection of Java backend development and infrastructure, with influence over both the platform and how the team operates. Specifically, you will:

  • Configure, maintain and improve Linux environments, Docker-based workflows, and Kubernetes clusters used by our product installer, build pipeline, and test environments,
  • Develop new backend functionality, primarily in Java,
  • Design and implement new platform features across cluster tooling, installer automation, and backend services,
  • Troubleshoot, optimize, and solve complex problems across the codebase and infrastructure,
  • Work closely with QA to keep code quality high as the product evolves, and
  • Mentor junior colleagues as they grow into the team.

Joining the team

You’ll join a 5-person, international Platform team based in Aarhus, responsible for the scalable platform layer underneath the entire SitaWare Suite, the part of the system that quietly makes everything else work, even under difficult network conditions.

Your qualifications

  • You hold a BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, with solid backend development experience.
  • You have hands‑on experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including configuring and operating clusters.
  • You’re comfortable working with Linux systems administration.
  • You have experience with Java, or are ready to build that up alongside your infrastructure skills.
  • You work well independently but default to open, collaborative communication.
  • You’ve worked in a Scrum environment, and
  • You communicate fluently in English, spoken and written.

Please note

that you must be able to present a clean criminal record and have lived in a NATO and/or an EU country for the past seven years as we work with security‑classified projects. Read more here.
