Job Overview

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer – Java with strong hands‑on experience in designing and developing scalable, secure, and high-performance backend applications.

This is a hands‑on engineering role for a developer who can take ownership of backend architecture, complex business logic, API development, system integration, performance optimisation, and production support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Java backend applications.
  • Develop secure and high-performance RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Translate business and functional requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Design and implement reusable backend components and services.
  • Develop microservices and distributed backend applications.
  • Integrate backend services with internal and third‑party systems.
  • Design and optimise database queries, transactions, and data access layers.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root‑cause analysis.
  • Optimise application performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Implement appropriate security controls for backend services and APIs.
  • Write unit, integration, and automated tests.
  • Participate in code reviews and maintain high coding standards.
  • Work closely with Frontend Developers, QA Engineers, Business Analysts, Architects, and DevOps teams.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical discussions, sprint planning, and estimation.
  • Support application deployment, release activities, and production issues.
  • Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical best practices.

Required Technical Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 5–8+ years of professional Java development experience.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with:
  • Spring Boot
  • Spring Framework
  • RESTful APIs
  • Microservices
  • Hibernate / JPA
  • Strong understanding of OOP, SOLID principles, design patterns, and clean code.
  • Experience with relational databases such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MS SQL Server.
  • Strong SQL and database optimisation skills.
  • Experience with Git and modern software development practices.
  • Experience with unit testing using JUnit, Mockito, or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of API security, authentication, and authorisation.

Tough / Niche Technical Skills

Candidates with experience in the following will be strongly preferred:

  • Microservices architecture and distributed systems.
  • Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other event‑driven messaging platforms.
  • API Gateway and service‑to‑service communication.
  • Redis or other caching technologies.
  • Docker and Kubernetes.
  • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect.
  • Performance tuning and load optimisation.
  • High‑availability and fault‑tolerant application design.
  • Observability tools such as ELK, Grafana, Prometheus, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Experience working with large‑scale enterprise applications.
